WIPs / Re: Please drop in your feedbacks on this.
« on: April 05, 2016, 09:14:34 pm »
ok I decided to post something positive first because I realized I was being kind of brutal, but its brutal love ok?

You have no problem coming up with melodies that work well together and the vocal is pretty cool  8)
I like the idea as a whole, it just could use a lot of work.

The quick rolling notes get really repetitive fast dude.  When the notes go higher every 8 bars, it should be doing that every 16 bars, because that gets repetitive really fast as well.  The notes you chose are fine though, I wont analyze it because I would choose different ones but these notes work just fine.

The bass is too loud and the kick basically has no presence at all, figure out the best kick/bass relationship you want in the EQ so they can both have their own space without diminishing their presence.  Actually go ahead and try to separate and EQ all of your sounds a little better, push yourself I know you can do it  8)

The piano melody needs to be scrapped for a better one. A memorable one.  This one has awkward rhythm and is just blah. So really work on that the most honestly.

2:44-3:18 this can be a much better transition, it goes into a much different vibe.

Anyways thats all I've got for ya  :P

Mixing/Mastering / Re: High Cutting Vocals
« on: April 05, 2016, 08:07:32 pm »
The vocals sit good in one section but then in the next section they sound quiet even though it's at the same volume.

Then adjust the volume of the vocal just for that certain section.  I used to think that if you have something at a certain volume in a mix, then it should stay that way in other parts of the arrangement, it used to drive me crazy.  But if that still doesnt sound right then try something else but sometimes its as easy as that

Is it healthy to force yourself to write music even when you dont want to or are facing a creative block?

For me, its healthy to an extent.  I have found myself in Fadex's state of mind plenty of times.  Simply put, you just have to keep pushing.  Even when im feeling discouraged, I will still open up my DAW and just start throwing stuff against the wall and see what sticks.  Often times, I breakthrough the wall of discouragement im feeling.  It really is like a wall, because if you chip away at it (opening up your DAW when feeling discouraged) you will eventually (could be a couple hours or a couple days) be so glad that you did.  I promise

Alot of people give up when its hard, without knowing that there are fulfilling rewards on the other side of that wall.  Just try it  ;)

Participating in the world and going through different experiences definitely make for good creative inspiration when I finally come home and sit down to my DAW.  Hangin out with friends, going on a hike, going out to eat, even waking up and Adulting (yes thats a verb) keeps you out of your head and your thoughts so when you produce, everything is more free-flowing.  I've noticed this too.

Thankfully there is plenty of internal inspiration as well that I can rely on, for the days when I decide to become a recluse and avoid humans totally, except my GF for which I cant seem to find the off for button sometimes. (she would totally punch me in the throat for saying that  ;D)

Also like Lydian said, pictures are good for inspiring.  Sometimes ill type in "beautiful scenery" in google images and choose my favorite one and try to paint the same picture onto my DAW.  Even if you dont accurately transfer the feelings, you will still come up with something awesome, and your own.

WIPs / Re: WIP i´ve been working on! (Future stuff)

Intro sounds like video game music for the menu screen of a cool game! Also, that chord progression is identical to a track I've heard before, thats neither a good or bad thing Im just writing in a stream of consciousness.  The Piano sounds kind of weak, and then the square layer that you layer on top of the piano sounds like its from a nursery rhyme, which makes me take the track less seriously.

BUT, at :50 when it drops its quite nice. The sounds come together nicely.  The rhythm of the main lead is lacking though, and for the piano as well.  Work on finding a good rhythm because right now it sounds like you didnt put much thought into it.

Anyways keep it up, you're on the right track!

WIPs / Re: Experimental Dance Thing

I think the bass is good where its at.  On some systems I can see where it may sound too subby.  so, if you really wanna work on it more, try to take away some of the subbiness and make room for a little more kick sub to penetrate through the mix and it might make a positive difference  :D

The kick/bass relationship is so important and its something I try to practice all the time.  the kick/bass relationship in this track is good, but not great.  Also, the main lead with heavy reverb is awesome and its what makes the track obviously.  I still think you can make it sound cleaner so that all of the other instruments can have more room  8)

Thanks Larkspur!

About the plucks.  The reason why they sound so full is because I layered them with a bass(cut out the mids and highs), and just EQ'd them together to make them seem like one single sound ;)

Now go try it!

Thanks trill, that is the trillest comment ever.

Lydian, I will let you know when Im done =)

Yea all of what Cub said.  Even saving it til 1:21 will make a huge difference.

I havent heard the original but this remix sounds likes its a job well done. Just needs to be mastered  8)

Keep it up!

I made this really fast and Im diggin' the little chord progression I created, but I made this while taking a break from finishing my other track and I'm not sure whether I want to finish this or not.

Everything is pretty BS'ed except for the bass/pluck and violin.  This is a very early stage creation but I was wondering what everyone's thoughts would be  :)

Its like, kind of a sad, contemplative vibe (nothing wrong with that though) that tries to be dancy as well but it doesnt quite work for me.  The quick volume change in the beginning sounds like a glitch and it throws me off a little.  You have good ideas but it the melodies are just a few notes off from being really good, so keep messing around with it a little more and see what happens  ;)

Yea dude, you should go ahead and try to finish this.  Simplicity is just as beautiful as the complex.  You could keep it that way and just add a couple counter melodies and a good breakdown and add finishing touches with transitions and tension building and what not.

Good job! keep up the good work  8)
