WIPs / Re: Dat Trance

The instruments you chose have already been heavily used in EDM (because they're good) and its a common chord progression so yea it sounds familiar BUT that does not mean that you cant make it your own sound still.  So continue it and have fun with it! It sounds like you already have the main vibe so just see where it takes you.

This is a great article!

Over the years I have always had this problem of finishing my tracks.  As a result, I've developed habits of checking myself and making sure that I'm working efficiently so I was pleased to see you mentioning the same habits and give even more.  I love how you present the information here, It's easy to follow and very applicable for me. I really needed to read this and remind myself about how important time-management is as well, and I really like your suggestion of thinking about your bedroom studio time as a studio session that is charging you by the hour to be there. So thank you!  :)

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: VST for Guitars
« on: July 06, 2016, 06:10:29 am »
Trilian is for bass, but there are still some good guitar samples in there.  If you're buying it for the bass though, it's worth every penny.  I dropped the 300 (back when I was still living with my parents, I could understand the hesitation now) and I dont regret it one bit.

As far as my favorite for guitars, I have found some reeeeeally good guitar samples on Goliath by East West.

Everyone has the same opportunity to make a life for themselves.

Very wrong.

Well, everyone has an opportunity to make a shitty life for themselves, but not everyone has the same opportunities to make a "good" or "successful" life for themselves.

Some times a song is only a minute or two.

You have to understand the context of your songs, and what they are telling you the direction they should go.

It's a part of understanding that the song is something to consider as well as what you want.

A nice level of respect towards the song should be given if you want to be satisfied with what you make.

Thanks, thats some really good advice right there! You always have great insight.  I have come to the same conclusions over the years about how songs require a nice level of respect, and it really pays off in multiple ways.

With my latest project, which is the one I was talking about in my last post, is preferred to be at least 4-5 minutes for a proper "original mix" release.  I have my 2 minutes worth, but I now need to build a proper intro/outro to fill the rest.  Or I could just release the 2 minutes and call it a complete work because its my art and I do what I want! ;D

Yea I can definitely relate to this.

I am the absolute worst when it comes to finishing my tracks.  It usually takes me a short amount of time (30 minutes to a couple hours) to come up with a loop of the main vibes and a few good elements that I end up keeping.  After that I'll create an arrangement that only lasts about 2 minutes and continue to perfect those 2 minutes without expanding on the arrangement.

I think that creating an arrangement first and foremost is crucial to an efficient work session. It has proven to work for me, but do I ever follow this advice? most of the times not haha  ::)

Me like dis a very much, Yes!  I have a wavo account and I'll vote for you as well as snag these wonderful vocals! Good job and keep up the good work! One critique I could provide is that I feel that the vocal and the lead are conflicting with each other a little bit, which makes it sound like the vocal is being slightly drowned out.

Take care!

WIPs / Re: Per feedback from TPF, I created this drop... Thoughts?
« on: May 18, 2016, 01:53:28 am »
1:15 those synths could be brighter and turned up slightly as well.  Also have you tried seeing what would happen if you introduced those vocal chops earlier? Nice drop at 4:15.  Also that section between 5:15 and 5:45 is great, but if it was half as long then I think that would flow more nicely, but then again this is only my personal taste.

This is a great track.  I cant compare it to your previous WIPs because this is my first time hearing it.  Sound almost done! I love it, Klang was spot on about the Bayer vibe.  He inspires me greatly as well  8)

I would've spent more time with people and less time obsessing over my music. I went as far as going to online school in order to make more time for my music, but the isolation burnt me out where it really mattered. We find inspiration, happiness, and creativity when we invest time in people who want to invest their time in us. Now I'm too cynical, and that's something I have to break free from because I know that then I'll start moving in the right direction.

I know what you mean.  I did the same thing the first 3-4 years that I started producing.  My mentality was that I had ALL this catching up to do and I didnt care about the sacrifices I made such as a social life or taking a couple years off college to focus on music.  Honestly I do not wish I had done anything differently because I believe that type of thinking holds you back.  I would not be as experienced as I am now if I didn't do what I did, and I don't regret it.

Building your social life back up takes a little bit of time but having a small circle is better anyways. 8)
