Sound Design / Re: PADS PADS PADS PADS
« on: April 22, 2017, 08:02:27 pm »
Been on a quest to create the best pads ever since I heard trance so heres a few tips:
  • Use lots of voices. You can use a low amount of voices on your osc if you want, but more voices adds atmosphere and weight.
  • There's no way around it... using a lot of voices with multiple oscillators WILL induce some phase cancellation. When this happens, the volume of your pad will randomly fluctuate. So, in order to have a consistent pad, apply saturation or a limiter to push down the volume to a point where you find it acceptable.
  • Utilize pre and post filtering. What I typically do is have a little decay on my cutoff filter for the oscillators; just a little something to adding energy. Then I'll apply FX like reverb, delay, etc. THEN I put a second filter on without any ADSR tweaking in order to filter the FX. It typically ends up working quite well and creates a less 'violent' pad.
  • Reverb. Your pad is specifically an instrument that A) supports the other instruments, and B) creates atmosphere/area.
  • Do not over complicate your chords. Unless your pad is the center of attention, I recommend keeping it VERY simple. If you're dying to get a complicated sound, look towards how you design the sound, not how you compose it.

Nicely put, I agree with all of that =D Its also cool to add a subtle white noise layer to your pads  8)

WIPs / Prog Trance 4.17 (Almost done)
« on: April 22, 2017, 04:13:20 pm »
Hey guys!

Well, it looks like my New Years resolution of finishing tracks is starting to work out =)

I'm almost done, but I am insecure about the drop at around 2:00 and other various parts of the track, and I've heard it so much that I've lost my objectivity about it lol so it would be great to do a test on some fresh ears! (I hope they're fresh, at least)

Any feedback would be great  8)

Hey! Nice horny synth sound! lol. Which VST is that from?

I like it. it gives me real chill feels and it feels good, man. It feels good  8)
The counter melody on top of it works with it nicely as well.

Some things that made me not so horny feeling is that it was a little hard to keep my interest early on.  I kept listening only because I was going to give you feedback, but if I was a casual listener then I would have went to the next track.

The good thing is that once the kick finally hits its really good!

Im about to upload something that is almost complete, maybe you can have a listen and let me know what ya think?

Hey I hope everyone has been well!

I recently got a new job that slightly limited some of my time to produce but in a way it has also helped me with being more intentional when i sit down to produce.  I value my time more since I work more hours and it has made me more productive which is sweet  8)

Anyways, this is something I have been cooking up the past couple of days. It still needs some things, and I would enjoy some fresh sets of ears to listen and provide some feedback (Like maybe some ideas for the drop?), I'll return the favor!

Hey! Well..everything can always be improved upon. Lets just talk about the things that stick out most.

The melody completely turns me off immediately, as well as the sound choice.  Your other sound choices arent bad though. Also, this is more like a 4x4 beat with a hint of drum variation here and there, just go listen to a DnB track and study the kicks and snares and then just copy that and start from there.  Good luck and keep working!

Well constructed track indeed.  This is awesome! the drop was a very pleasant surprise.  Listened all the way through.  Now Im gonna do my own remix haha, didnt know this was available!

Only constructive criticism I have right now is at 4:22 when the kick is solo right before the wall of sound hits.  It's good and im actually satisfied with it, but if i had the project file opened in front of me, then I would try using a finger snap instead or mess around with a couple short percussion layers just to see what it sounds like.

again, great work!

damn what a sad story, he sounds like he does this to multiple people.

If it were me, I'd be saying his name, putting him on blast right now lol.

WIPs / Re: feedback for electro/techno track?
« on: January 28, 2017, 09:14:01 pm »
pretty good idea, but theres a lot of harsh frequencies going on from multiple different instruments. Also pay attention to your kick/bass relationship in the EQ and then decide whether you want a more subby kick or a more subby bass because you cant have both. keep it up though  8)

Does anyone else buy their favorite artist's track, open up their DAW, put a Parametric EQ on it and just watch where each instrument is taking up space and where its not and how it's all beautifully molded together?

I learn so much from doing that, way more than I thought I would.  Not only do I better understand the role of each instrument in the context of the song but it also teaches me things about how the human ear interprets sound, and it teaches me that in order to create the atmosphere or impact that I desire, I have to understand the role of each section of the frequency spectrum.  I have to let each sound have its own space and that requires cutting unwanted frequencies with confidence, and boosting others that are more desirable without having it overpower the song because having that big drop doesn't mean you have to boost all these frequencies. Things sound louder when they simply have more frequency space to "breathe"

Sorry some of this probably sounds like old news to most everyone here, and I actually "knew" this too before I started doing it.  I just wanted to know if anyone gets the same type of clarity about mixing when they do this, or if they do this.  Because if ya don't, then ya should!

Finished Tracks / Re: Aley & Oshay - Lost In The Desert
« on: January 26, 2017, 03:42:47 am »
Hey! No surprise that this was signed!

I enjoyed it a lot, it reminds me of the good stuff from the 2008-2009 trance era =) Thank you for this!

If I were being picky, then I would say that the lead melody is great but I think it has potential to be even more memorable than it already is!  :) so many melodic possibilities to explore with that great sound!

Several less common suggestions:

Make music right after you get out of the shower, because your creativity is heightened.  Create late at night at like 12am-3am(probably not for everyone). Don't masturbate, or release in general. Your sexual energy is one of the most powerful forms of energy that one can tap into to use for intention and creativity. Take a toke of the peace pipe.  Thats all I got for now.

Im digging it! great choice of sounds (so important) and this beat definitely is a hot one! There isnt anything that stands out to me that bothers me.  The only thing I could say is to finish it completely and maybe add a little counter melody filler here and there.  I love it though, Im free styling on it right now..its tight  8)

Thanks for the feedback on my track! you were spot on about the clap, it was slightly bothering me too but couldnt understand why

thanks for the kind words! yes that guitar is from Goliath by East West. I love it.

thanks for the feedback, the drop is actually mostly done but I left it out because it didnt satisfy me yet.  I usually develop the core of the song first and then let everything branch out and thats what I did this time, it just doesnt sound like it from this clip =P sorry about that.

hope you've been well!

I just realized the clip was deleted because I didnt have an account, I reuploaded it lol

Hey everyone! Happy New Years!

Anyways, this is the year that I'm going to finally finish the several WIP's that have been on the back burner for far too long now, and this track that I'm sharing here is one of them.  You guys are welcome to roast and toast it, as it will only make me more determined to finish it  8) I'm definitely interested in hearing some feedback and if you have a track you want me to give feedback on then just let me know!
