Mixing/Mastering / Re: Ear Fatigue
« on: January 24, 2016, 09:13:30 am »
I rarely produce with my headphones on, I'll do most of the stuff on my monitors and then put on the headphones to make the final touch, even then I'll don'y use them 2 hours max. I listen to things a lot quieter than most people do, so I don't get much ear fatigue.

This would be the perfect thing for you...
Copy songs, literally recreate every element your ears can hear, arrange it in the same way, and get the same mix/master.
You said you enjoy sound design so this should be a lot of fun, and you'll get better at arrangements.

Like I said in another thread, don't try to be original when you're just starting out. Learning how to produce is like learning a new instrument, and a bunch of other stuff on top. You don't learn the piano by writing your own songs, you learn by copying other songs until you're good enough to write your own. Don't be afraid to rip off melodies, chord progression, arrangements, samples, and sounds from other songs.

No idea, but music is a great way to deliver messages and emotions.

Everyone has times when they feel like this, no matter how inspired their music sounds. I'm going through this right now in fact.

I usually feed off of extreme emotions to write powerful music, and I'm too centered and content right now. I'm trying to find a place in my mind where I can conjure up those extreme emotions without actually being immersed in them.

Have you ever tried doing what Crywolf did? He went to the middle of nowhere in Iceland and came back with an amazing album.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Cooking
« on: January 24, 2016, 08:59:57 am »
I couldn't agree with you more!

My favorite things to do are cooking and producing music, like seriously.
There's just something fun about picking things out, putting them together, and savoring the finished products.

The theme of the dish is like the genre of a song.
The protein is the dish's foundation, just like your chords.
The garnish is what really makes your dish stand out, just like the melody, and without it, it would be a hunk of meat sitting on a plate.
The sauce is what brings everything together and makes your dish complete, like the small elements that fill the gaps in your sound or the layers of your synths.

Finding the best ingredients that compliment each other is one of the most important parts, if they don't work together, it wont be 100%.
The kitchen is like your DAW, it has everything you need, and it's organized to your liking.
Prepping the food is like getting everything ready for the song, whether it be simple EQs or fixing the drums/sounds you want to use.
As you start to put things together, some things might not work out, and you may need to swap it out for something else.
The seasoning is what makes your dish shine, salt is the most important tool for a chef, it's like your EQ. You add effects to your sounds to make them flourish, and make the song more full.
Timing is key when it comes to cooking, a couple seconds could be the difference between perfectly cooked and overcooked. Not every element of a dish will have the same cooking time, you can't just throw everything in at once and expect it to be good. Having too many things playing at once for extended periods of time makes the song boring.
The pass (or just your kitchen counter) is where everything comes together, you make the dish look its best. The final touches, mixing, mastering, album artwork, etc...
A full course meal is like an album, you take people on a magical, orgasmic journey.

I guess this is how I see these two things relating.

It kind of sucks though... The two things I really love doing are very hard make a good living off of, but I'm still going to pursue it because I don't want any regrets, I already have too many...

"Accept everything about yourself - I mean everything, You are you and that is the beginning and the end - no apologies, no regrets.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Collab

Yeah I understand that, I was trying to get someone that was on the same boat as me and maybe we could bounce ideas off. If not I'll keep working until I can have some songs to show.

Honestly this is the same as having a homeless person come up to you and ask for change.
On the other hand, if you have a soundcloud, it's more like pitching an idea to investors. Time is money, and you're asking people to invest their time into you and you need to make it worthwhile.

Post your soundcloud... If you don't have any songs finished, then I highly doubt anyone will be willing to collab with you.

do you know who created this forum you're on? do you know who most successful/iconic electronic musicians are? they are EXACTLY what you just described. they are total nerds that were so passionate about their craft that they did nothing but bury their faces in electronics all day every day.

So, I'm just a regular INDIAN kid and i'm quite mad about producing music and I keep myself hooked to my DAW most of the time. But the problem is my PARENTS are not as cool about this as I am. They think I'm gonna go insane literally if I keep up this shit. I produce for about 3-4 hrs in a stretch and do this almost the whole day. I know its just normal to produce for long periods but my parents are old school and they keep restraining me quite a lot from producing (They think its a waste of time). It is f**king my mind up and my creativity. How do I make my parents cool about this?

Like cryophonik said, they have a lot more experience and wisdom compared to you, and they only want what's best for you. I honestly wish I had listened to my parents more, because my life would be so much better if I had. Not many parents want to see their child pursuing a career that is hard to make a living off of, they'd rather see their kid be a lawyer/doctor/engineer because then they'll at least know that you won't go broke.
They could also see producing as a short term thing that you got hooked into. When I was in high school I literally spent 8 hours a day almost everyday coding, it was fun for a few months, but then I lost interest. In my case, coding was beneficial because our current society is driven by technology, but music production isn't going to help you land a job in any field aside from music, and I think that's what your parents are worried about.
I'm not saying you're not going to continue to produce music and pursue it as a job, I'm just saying there's a possibility that you find something else you enjoy more and might end up regretting the fact that you wasted tons of hours on something that didn't really benefit you.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Music Promotion stuff
« on: January 19, 2016, 07:14:16 am »
To get your music promoted, you need to find promoters and send them a demo.
If you're not willing to put in the work to find promoters, then you shouldn't bother sending them anything at all.

He basically says that you can either work on multiple projects or listen to a lot of music that isn't yours.
I can't work on multiple songs, it's just not the way I work. I start a bunch of simple projects until I have something I like, and then I just work on it until it's done. I listen to music almost nonstop, so it's not really an issue for me.
