R&A Graveyard / Re: Different sub forums for DAWs?

I feel like people should already know their DAW before coming here...

Just do whatever you want, that's how you build your identity as an artist. You can be known as the guy who only produces dubstep, or the guy who produced everything but still has something that ties each genre back to you.
Each genre has it's own special thing that makes it good, and learning those things could be beneficial to the main genre you produce.
Don't let your listeners shape who you become as a producer.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Work habits?
« on: January 15, 2016, 07:07:27 am »
I need to have at least 3 hours of free time, and if I don't, I don't and can't produce.
I like to focus on one song at a time because it helps me stay focused on the original theme/feel of the track. It's also because I'm impatient, the ideas that make it into a song are ideas that I really like and I want to finish it ASAP.

It could do with even more oomf on the kick.  So for what I always seem to comment on: It´s very wide.  Put on a  glue compressor, and if you use a stereoizer then try turning it off or down.  Hope this helps.  Cool track.

Is there an FL equivalent of a glue compressor? Seems like it's only for Ableton

Heya, I'm back here.

So kick is now much better. I like how the "horns" lead sounds. Snare/clap are a bit lost during the drop. try using a different one sidechaining could be enough. Everything else is very cool.

Sounds a bit repetitive but that's it.

yeah.. I'm working on that :(, haven't really done this in a while  haha

This would definitely tidy up the board. Are you suggesting archived posts also be accessible in a separate Archive section?

Yeah!

after hearing Flux say some of his tracks go into the red, I just do whatever sounds good now.

This is only fine when you are working in 32 bit floating point or if you want to ruin your music before it is finished.

Well that's a bit harsh... No faith in my taste?

When I started producing I was told that you should always mix with some headroom in order to avoid clipping. If I were to start with the kick at 0db then the minute I added a second element such as a snare the mix would start clipping. It always made sense for me to lower the faders in the mix and then increase the volume using a limiter during mastering in order to get that 0db hit from the kick.

Then again I've heard and seen some pretty weird production methods. Deorro who went to my high school and came from the same city as me mixes with nothing on his master. He self taught himself almost everything since he was homeless at a point and didn't have money to afford wifi to watch tutorials.

I love Deorro! Have you had a chance to check out his interview at Ignorant Philosophy?

I recently learned that the way you master/mix/produce is completely up to you. I always thought it was good to leave some headroom but after hearing Flux say some of his tracks go into the red, I just do whatever sounds good now.

I find myself just turning on my DAW every day, but the length I work on a song can be anywhere from 1-8 hours. I usually just mess around with things for an hour, and then go do something else for there rest of the day.

69
Why don't you just post this in the other thread lol

Honestly, I don't think the mods would see this if I posted it there ._.
But if you think they will, I'll delete this and post it there :]

People complaining that the feedback section sucks right now, and it does suck... I updated my post a few hours ago and it just gets pushed to the next page...
Anyways, a mod could just check the feedback section and the 3 posts from time to time, and if the feedback that was given was inadequate, then the post gets deleted.
IMO, giving feedback is a great way to help someone improve because new producers won't be able to instantly tell what's wrong with their track. I end up asking like 5 of my friends to listen to my WIPs to get a different perspective.

If there's no mod willing to do this, I would be happy to help.

I bought one but I then realized that its more beneficial for me to just listen to tracks and copy down the melodies/progressions to get  better idea of the stuff. I won't use them when making a song, but it does help

WIPs / Re: chill hip hop beat

The high hats kinda get annoying since it keeps going from left to right, maybe tone down the panning a little bit?
Widen up the snares a little bit?

WIPs / Re: How should I add atmosphere into this track?

Add some reverb to the chord synth.

Definitely needs reverb, layer your sounds, and maybe throw in some sort of noise to fill up the high end.
Also try distorting the bass to make it a bit fatter.
