R&A Graveyard / Introduction Thread
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:04:25 am »
Maybe have a template something like this?

Name (real or producer) :
Soundcloud/social media link (if not already provided in profile) :
General Area (if people want to meet irl, maybe we can make a meetup.com group) :
Favorite Genre :
How many years have you actively been producing?
Are you looking to collaborate? If so, who would be your ideal collaborator? :
Do you want to be a WIP buddy? (someone you just bounce ideas off of) :
Hobbies (Other than producing obviously) :

Having a brain fart right now, this is all I can think of, but yeah...

Personally, I find it a bit hard to meet new people, even on a forum like this, don't know why, but that's just me. I think this would make it easier for people to make new friends quick, like tinder?

Yeh we want to keep that kind of thing well separate from the art of making music. That's actually why I wanted to start this forum in the first place

I love how you're so active!

i sent in a DM the other day suggesting a similar idea, or at least a forum section dedicated to the business side of things ie. labels/promoters/management/events/whatever. lots of talented guys in this forum who i'm sure can benefit from open discussion on various topics relating to the actual business side of music - but maybe just a bit of a stretch from what this forum is for? :o

That's true, I guess this is more of a place for producers to meet other producers, not deal business.

I'm sure I've heard many really creative song, but the first one that comes to mind is Verloren by Ninth Parallel, not saying this because he runs this joint haha.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Sidechaining everything
« on: January 08, 2016, 08:43:52 am »
I don't think its poor engineering. Sometimes you want nothing but one element playing at a time like the kick and snare. Some people even go in and paste the transients into the track after they bounced it just to make sure nothing else is in the mix during the transients

Do you know of any videos/articles that explain what transients are? Can't seem to get a grasp on it...

A lot of people tend to use their kicks to trigger their side-chains, which works great in some cases but the tail of the kick often leads to it going over the top and loosing a lot of the sound.

I've attached a really tight "Tap" which I use as the trigger for my side-chain, it has no tail at all and makes all the difference.

I really agree with this. Never use the kick in your mix as the side-chain trigger. It causes you to change your kick just to change your side-chain effect. In order to stay in complete control you should separate the two and have them changeable without effecting each other.

welp time to redo all my sidechains

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: How do you speed up the process?
« on: January 08, 2016, 08:33:50 am »
The easiest and fastest method would be making chords > bass > melody
and then adding onto it.
Although, IMO you shouldn't really rush a track (unless your ghost producing), it's done when it's done.

It's cool, but there are so many sites dedicated to this.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a section from labels/promoters to find artists and promote their channel/label/etc... Maybe even give tips? It would probably get flooded with posts so maybe have a post limit for each user?

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: What is your DAW template?
« on: January 08, 2016, 07:57:37 am »
I start blank, I feel like having a set template kind of limits my creativity. Also, since I'm still pretty new to this, there are still a lot of different ways I can approach things. My goal is not to pump out tracks every day/week, so having a template doesn't really do much for me.

Hi Guys!  Nice to see a new production forum out there.

In case anybody has not seen it yet we have a free page of samples at www.blackoctopus-sound.com/free-downloads

All of these sounds are royalty free to use in your own commercial productions.

We will be adding to this page as time goes.

Enjoy!

I love you guys!

I'm currently like 10% of the way finished and I've put in around 25 hours, I have no idea when I'll finish, but it will be done when it's done.
One guy I know spent 400 hours on a song :3
