I'm sure we've all had this feeling. You listen to your stuff and think it's crap. I used to make music like crazy and not even thinking about the consequences. Now I just cringe while listening to my released stuff.

The weird thing is when I'm making a track I think it's going pretty good. It's only until I export it when I start to notice things I don't like about it. The doubt starts to creep in. I know I've heard worse stuff than mine before but I've also heard much better stuff too.

My question is how do you keep yourself positive about what you make and your progression as a producer?

For me I've always had the issue of working on something, and thinking its REALLY good. only to wake up the next day and be like "meh"

Haha, that used to happen to me, it's just the reality of producing

Seeing your self improve would be a start.
No matter what you do, you are going to suck at it in the beginning. It may not take long to get better for some things, but producing takes YEARS. Keep all your finished track, and just listen to them and compare them to your current tracks, see the difference. Some people aren't patient enough to know that this is going to take a lot of fucking time.
IMO you need the passion to produce, otherwise it's going to be a tough journey.

I get what you're saying. I mean I've been producing for 5 years but I'm never happy with my stuff. I'm always wanting to go up a level. There's still a long journey ahead though so that's promising. I'm not trying to 'make it' I just want to be able to listen to my stuff and feel proud to share it.

Stick with it, it could be another 10 years before you're at where you want to be

Just a thought

It's not really a phrase of death, especially not to professionals. Professionals understand that it is very hard to be truly unique and accept it, but amateurs start to dig their own grave when the thought of not being unique haunts them.

I stopped thinking about being unique a long time ago, I just do me, and if it's unique, then great!

If they do then why is the majority of the music industry driven by pop structured songs? The proof is right there, and there's no reason to question it.
Also, I wouldn't doubt that for a second. Ninth Parallel is a part of why I'm still here making music.

Perhaps a section for producer's to suggest how or who they get the artwork.

Maybe even Photoshop / Gimp / Inkscape tip threads.
As Mat_Zo said, it's a forum based for music producer. A thread like that could be usefull for people who don't have connection, but i'm sure it won't see the daylight.

The forum is strictly about production, anything beyond that won't be in here

Think that would go under Finished Tracks

Money drives people, and the simple songs are what sells. People have no reason to create more complex songs

I can tell you is that only you can know what type of music you want to make. If someone else tells you what to do, then it's not really something you want to make, but what someone else wants to make. Maybe we should start with your motivation. What is your reason for making music?

I produce because I enjoy creating elements and putting them together, and that combined with my love for electronic music, becomes music production. I create music that I think is good, but it depends on my mood and what I come in contact with during the day. Sometimes I just ask my friends what genre I should produce and then turn it into something I want. It's a way for me to limit myself so that I don't get lost, having some sort of direction is always helpful.

It kind of seems like what Ninth Parallel is doing! It's what I aim to do with my productions, but I'm very far from being able to do something so complex.

edit: oh cool, we got the thumbs up, thumbs down buttons haha
