WIPs / Re: [Flowstate] Trance + The 100!

Hey cool song. I don't listen to much of this kind of music but I think you should tune all your instruments to the frequency of the universe. It might seem weird but the music will resonate with you and others at a whole other level. It can almost completely change the mood of a song( this one of yours seemed somewhat dark to me)

The universe is dark my friend

Thanks for the feedback guys! Now that you mention it, 2:52 is really lacking that punch. I didn't even realize it before (the power of feedback!) I'll add more noise to the super saw also. @sforys, I tried the 2 bars but that also felt a bit weird. I still don't really know what I can do to make that ride out a little smoother but I'm very open to suggestions. I've tried putting a reverse reverb kick that leads up to it, spreading the stereo depth and also minimizing the depth (tried both ways) but nothing seemed to help the problem. Let me know if you can think of something!

Any other feedback on the vocals? I'm worried it's a bit too much on the high end but maybe that's just me?

Hi all, a few days ago I found a really sweet vocal snip of the tv show, The 100. Decided to try and create a full remix of the song. Let me know what you think! I want to emit emotion and depth in this song so let me know if I achieve that or not. Thanks!

WIPs / Re: KLANG | Don't Look Back | Very Emotional New Song
« on: March 21, 2016, 06:15:01 pm »
This is my new song 'Don't Look Back.' When I hear listen, it reminds me of how far I have come in life and how I have all of my accomplishments have been made by looking forwards rather than backwards. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Feedback : What could I have done better or what do you like about it? Arrangement/mixing/musical feedback is very much appreciated here!!

Very emotional track my friend! Love the depth you create. One thing I was hoping for was having the second drop harmonize a fifth higher than the melody, i think that would create another level of heightened depth and emotion to really bring the song full circle. Other than that, production and mixing is fantastic. Keep it up KLANG

Yea dude, you should go ahead and try to finish this.  Simplicity is just as beautiful as the complex.  You could keep it that way and just add a couple counter melodies and a good breakdown and add finishing touches with transitions and tension building and what not.

Good job! keep up the good work  8)

Good to know! Yeah as much as I want to make it unique, i think it's more important to get the quality right first. Did you feel it was too cluttered with reverb or too much on the high end?

Hi all, I found a really interesting vocal snip from the tv show, The 100, and wanted to give it a trance remix. It's very simple trance, as I wanted to get the fundamentals down first. Let me know what you guys think, if I should change anything that sounds off or if it's good enough to move forward. Thanks!

WIPs / Alan Watts + Minimal Tech... very interesting
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:27:26 pm »
Hi all, this is a little different than what I usually do! I went on a tangent but decided to go with the flow. Anyway this is what I ended up creating. I wanted to get full, clean, crisp sounds without much layering so let me know if you think it was accomplished right! Any tips and comments welcomed (:

Mixing/Mastering / My music just sounds.... off?
« on: March 10, 2016, 07:17:27 pm »
Hey guys, every time I try to finish and complete a song, everything just sounds a bit off, out of place, or "backwards". I can't pin point exactly what it is but it doesn't sit well when I play it back. Any tips on how to achieve a better overall sound?

Right now I'm thinking it has a lot to do with depth and panning positioning. Any advice on how far/near, left/right certain timbre's and sound frequencies should be?

Is there a "general rule of thumb" that I could follow? i.e. sub's should be mono, bass synths should only pan a certain amount, high frequencies like percussions can sit in the back?

I make trance music so it's been difficult balancing all the different layers together :/

Mixing/Mastering / Re: So lost on Phasing... HELP
« on: March 08, 2016, 09:40:47 pm »
Very interesting! So does phasing only effect similar sounds in the same frequency range? i.e. two different kinds of kicks competing vs. a kick and a hi hat.

And you said that if we flip both of them, nothing would happen, so does that mean phasing is only an issue with two or more instruments? What about phasing L/R?

Mixing/Mastering / So lost on Phasing... HELP
« on: March 08, 2016, 08:34:14 pm »
So I'm completely confused on phasing... What is phasing and how does it effect your production? Is there any reason to use phasing? I feel like phasing is something that only causes problems with your mix. I've tried using it to put my timbre in different locations in my sound field but it still feels "off".

Thanks!

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Your inspiration for your name

I think my name is pretty self explanatory but I'll go more in-depth about it. Flowstate = the state of flow. For the people that don't know, the state of flow is the highest possible "mental state" one could be in in regards to doing something.
I like this name. Really good one! :)

Ahh thanks! Yeah my friend and I were talking about psychology and the process of attributing skills with experience. When he brought up the words "state of flow" it immediately caught my mind and I had to stop him mid conversation to tell him I wanted that for my musical journey. I never questioned the name since (:

I think my name is pretty self explanatory but I'll go more in-depth about it. Flowstate = the state of flow. For the people that don't know, the state of flow is the highest possible "mental state" one could be in in regards to doing something. You often hear creatives say, "once you're in the state of flow..." It's the highest balance of skill level and competition. The ability to do something extremely hard but having the ability to do it well.

Here's the wiki definition of the state of flow:
"In positive psychology, flow, also known as the zone, is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does."

This name doesn't signify that I am in the flow state but it's rather a reminder to always reach for the flow state. To continue pushing forward through hardship and obstacles to ultimately reach the state of flow with music. It's also a constant reminder on the type of music I make. I want my music to feel immersive and full of emotion rather than having something that sounds "cool".

Attached is a chart that represents the state of flow so you can visualize your progression with any skills you want to improve on.

Nice song! I hear some Andrew Bayer influence in there haha. One thing I like to do is get the root note/fundamental frequency of the song and have that played throughout the breakdown in a pad synth. I think if you do something a little similar you the breakdown will flow a bit smoother. Also try giving the higher frequency synths a bit more stereo space to get a bigger/fuller drop! Other than I like the progression. Keep it up KLANG!

WIPs / Re: Modern Classical + Trance?

Something like this for the chords down for the outro (the actual outro): https://clyp.it/xtyg55ue

I think it's somewhat recognizable if you know the song. Which is good. You want a remix to be recognizable but unique and you did that. If you'd ever want to work together on something I'm an enormous fan of Anjuna myself. Jason Ross and Ilan Bluestone are legends.

Very interesting, maybe I can get that in here, let me try! And I'm always down to collaborate, what software do you use to produce? I use Ableton Live 9. Yeah honestly they are so good at what they do. I get alot of inspiration from Jason Ross, Sunny Lax, and Andrew Bayer, can't get enough.

WIPs / Re: Modern Classical + Trance? PART 2!!

Somehow the sidechaining at around the 3:38 mark seems off-beat from the actual track. Maybe try tweaking it a little bit. Also, the piano at ~4:03 sounds a bit intrusive and doesn't sit the best in the mix, but I bet if you EQ and/or level it in a nice way it'll sound really good. The buildup is honestly so great though. Good stuff!

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll mess around with the side chaining and see if I can make it better! Yeah I haven't really decided whether to go with the piano or a more electric pluck synth.

Are you referring to the club beat buildup or the breakdown melodic build up? I haven't really gotten a grasp of the club beat part so it's all been trial and error for me right now :b
