Maybe it's just me but I think the drums are too verbed and really clutter the mix.

Other than that, you have a great melody and soundscape. I think getting the drums punchier in the mix and less verbed, will give this better depth.

Yeah I used a reverebed kick for it but I see what you mean! Do you think the crashes are also too loud? Something in that mix can be deleted but I'm not sure which one allows the right amount of clarity and fullness.

I just wouldn't want it to feel like I just copied the melody and put a kick on it. Idk, how would you make the drop?

I couldn't tell you tbh, that's entirely up to you! You could take it in a bunch of directions - one chord one note banger, or something like A&B's Hello, or something where the main section is quite proggy and sparse and minimal. Depends entirely on the track you want to make.

Are you into Sasha's stuff at all? If it was my track I'd probably take my inspiration from something like Belfunk (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koFt_nDnIS0), but I doubt I have the production chops to pull that off. Just a thought though. I love that Sasha tune.

I've never heard of Sasha but I'm digging the progressive techno to it! Will explore this artist more in depth now haha. I honestly have no idea, I love the chord progression I have, but using that as the chorus would be too expected you know? Maybe adding techno would work as well.

Mate you've nailed the feels on this one.

Is this gonna be the breakdown to a longer track? If so I'd skip the section around 1:00 to 1:30. I was expecting the track to keep building around the 1:00 mark but then it dropped out again. I'm not a fan of massively long breakdowns though, so just my opinion.

Thanks man! I hope it wasn't too "simple". I want to emit the elusion of depth and complexity while staying under a certain amount of clips (right now I have 7 different clips "timbre" for this song. I wasn't planning on extending this song, what you hear now is the entire story of the song. Although, if I were to build a club mix of this, I would definitely cut the bridge (the part with the piano keys and the violas) and replace it with the a build into a drop. I don't know how the chorus would be though, I want it to be the same but different at the same time.... hahah idk if that makes sense. I just wouldn't want it to feel like I just copied the melody and put a kick on it. Idk, how would you make the drop?

Had a listen.

Melody wise (for me) it's a bit too long. I would cut out the first minute, because it's not that interesting.

The part after that is interesting. Kinda Above & beyond style.. :-)

Would be good to have someone sing over it..

Definitely on the right track! Can see it will be released if worked out properly.

Interesting! I love A&B (: Yeah I can't get out of the progressive part of production so I tend to drag things out for too long or keep something in that may be unnecessary. I'll see if I can put something a little more captivating for the beginning part! Do you have any recommendations of how the beginning should be?

Hey man! try panning some of the timbre opposite of each other. Another way to add space is to take a simple delay, turn up the dry/wet to 100%, feedback 0%, put the L to 0.00ms and the R to 0.12ms. This creates the illusion of space because your ears pick up the sound .12ms faster on the L side than the R side. Also what the above commenter said. Don't just put a reverb on it, you'll kill the impact of the song.

Two better solutions would be
1) throw the reverb (or delay) onto a return track and send whatever you want to that channel
2) put a compressor on your clip, group it, then put the reverb (or delay) right next to it on the chain list so the sound splits into two separate outputs. (I work with Ableton, so I don't know if this makes sense for other DAWs) Both essentially are to preserve the normal sound while adding the effect onto it.

Think of it like icing on a cake. Don't replace the entire cake with icing.

Hope that helps!

Holy shit! Dude this is awesome. No lie; I have goosebumps.

What did you use for the strings & piano???

Can't wait to hear the final product!

Ah thanks man! I'm always going for the goosebumps! I used the grand piano that comes with Ableton, put a stereo widener effect I made myself and then added reverb and EQed the ends while boosting up the 4500-5000 frequency range. For the strings I used Ableton sound pack, Orchestral Strings! For my life I couldn't recreate orchestral strings from scratch, it always sounded too "synthy" so I gave into the sound pack :#

Emotionally, this song is fantastic. The melodies are spot on and wonderful to listen to.
Production is spot on as well.
Only critique is that it gets a tad cluttered when those drum hits come in.
Spectacular job man!
Cheers

Thanks, that's good to hear! Yeah I the crashes are a bit too loud maybe? Maybe I should cut the lower frequencies off it even more? I'm not sure. I also flattened out a reverb kick and then a very clean kick so it maybe be the reverb kick that creates the clutter. I want to keep the long release kick though so I wouldn't know a way around that without having it sound to "up front". What do you think?

So I've been trying to recreate the emotion I feel when I listen to trance music. My emotions trigger all the way from the progressive culmination of timbre, to the breakdown of a song, to the minuscule details that bring a song to life. So for this instant, I'm focusing on the breakdown part of trance music. Basically I've been working on this for too long to the point it doesn't trigger any more emotion. I'm hoping it's just a "producer" problem and would love your comments and analysis of my song.

Thanks!
