layers for high, mid, main, I'm trying to develop my layering atm..

sidechaining, i've seen sidechaining not just to a ghost kick but different types of lead sidechaining

panning, a strong bass, sub bass underneath the leads, saturation, reverb etc

using the eq to get the best out of it, eqing is so so Important.. I'm still learning about it
then the mix down has to be good too in the end

hmm...and then try adding fills FX, in between the leads, something like that, and then clap, snare, ride after 8 bars...i love it when the snare, clap, etc kick in, its like yeah c'mon

vengeance, freshly squeezed, loopmasters, sample magic,
anywhere really, but you're always on the lookout for good patches or drums for your sound

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / how do you get creative?

I love to stream the english premier league while in the studio, and follow all the news about it all, some fifa on playstation when on breaks

this helps me with creativity for some reason

also i like to visualise my favourite producers talking to me in the studio

no drugs, pills or anything

and..drinking coffee helps

its one of the most trusted eq and mixing plugins in the market, many pros use it, i still use the native ableton eq as well

laidback luke forum, but i wasn't really active, there was a tonne of information though

I'm pretty active on mat's one cause its mat zo!

laidback luke was more of a DJ to me, his technical skills in the decks are amazing
and mat is a genuine producer, so i guess why i feel more good inside

Wow.  :o This is.. just.. amazing. Hahaha

yes of course, i think he has reached genius level now, my favourites are his remix of tiesto driving to heaven, thing called love and superman, frequency flyer, sometimes i dont want to listen to it because it brings back too much memories

im not sure, a lot of progressive trance still uses alot of 'trance' samples i think

we've seen more of the big room and trouse use electro, house and even dubstep percussion

so that means freshly squeezed samples, sunny lax essentials or something

i know ilan bluestone uses freshly squeezed samples
toby hedges sound is awfully close to ilan bluestone i think..

its about music theory and taking risks/experimenting with your notes, this is where the creativity muscle must be developed though nothing but practice

try and study some of the records out there that inspire you and take from it and make it to your own

things started to change for me when i started to put in more effort, and learn actually how a music piece was made, when i began, i went in the studio and wrote whatever i wanted without any technical knowledge, i know now this isn't the right way to do it

now its about 4 years in and things are changing, i can feel it when i open up my daw

i know that if you want to make good music, you have to become a nerd about music production and be hungry for knowledge,

you start to impress yourself when you get better, and this builds confidence, this means you eventually start to build your own sound

your habits start to change, you look at what the pros are doing, what they are reading, what they are looking at, you become inspired, dont compare too much, they're pretty much setting the bar for you

its all about being very focused, not becoming distracted, and really soaking up knowledge and becoming a sponge

i think its also good to be a DJ too, i started playing at my friend's parties when i began, and you can get a feel of what works and what doesnt work, but honestly i love producing more than djing because you have actual knowledge of the construction of music, and you're just smarter than a guy who plays records

i noticed that once you get into this rabbit hole of producing, you start to notice things in the world, you start to see that there are lazy people out there who dont care about their craft and most of your buddies just wanna take vacations and social media, in time you start to supersede those guys
cause your work ethic increases

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: melody questions
« on: January 28, 2016, 11:38:14 am »
thats an interesting question man

i think that when the people say they have a melody in their head, is when they have reached that level of musical creativity, this is after years and years of producing man, and practice after practice

transferring the melody form your head into the daw is the hardest part, believe me..
but dont worry I'm sure garrix has a lot of help from engineers and other unknown producers, his dad was a successful businessman mind you,

just remember a lot of the guys in interviews aren't the ones making the tracks, its just good for inspiration

some people like to produce on their laptops and some on their computers

i was producing on my laptop in the beginning and then after 5 years the battery died, then i was without ableton for 4 days and i went insane while the battery was getting replaced

so i bought a computer with good specs

i really recommend a computer because its just so much better CPU wise, cause plugins start to hog the CPU, like kontakt lol, you can upgrade the specs after awhile too

the laptop still is good when you're on the go or you want to be elsewhere
