FLstudio 11. The layout is dark and the piano roll is the best I've used.

I'm also pretty excited to see how Bitwig will be in a year or so. If you've used ableton or reason it should be a pretty easy switch.
True for FL 11, but FL 12 :D it's way more good looking

Track link not working...

1. Don't try to be original + Don't be afraid to steal good ideas from your favorite tracks (Good artists copy, while Great artists Steal)

This! I'd even go as far to say, try and recreate other people's tracks entirely. It will teach you a lot more than trying to come up with original ideas. Just make sure you don't carry on doing it like some people *coughzombycough*

I definitely agree with this, remaking full songs is great practice, and it's a method I have used periodically to learn very quickly! It's a good challenge to take up. Pushing yourself to figure out how to get something sounding a certain way makes you innovate and develop your own techniques. Even if you didn't nail the sound, you're still getting closer and learning more through experimentation  ;)
I do agree, remixes/bootlegs are really interesting to see if you can add something to a track you actually love. To learn sound design/mix it's better to experiment on remix

WIPs / Re: I don't know what genre is this but maybe you like it :)
« on: January 07, 2016, 06:40:34 pm »
Hi,

So... I don't really care about the genre. It doesn't matter. What matter is the mix. It's distorted because it's clipping. How to fix that ? try lowering the volume of everything. Add EQ and try looking tips for mix in the section on this forum. there's alot of good thing.

So the actual link doesn't work because soundcloud players doesn't allow private link. ;) But I've managed to get it anyway.

So the ideas are very cool but the rest doesn't follow.

First, you need actual basses. The high pitched lead is a good idea but it needs to be supported by a low mid bass and a sub. Kick needs to be powerfull and snare less wet.

then you need to mix it right. try this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBqgh_mvkys
for the main idea follow this tutorials. it will help you identify the different part of the track.

Hey,

Since no one seems to come here, i'll be the first.

So, there isn't much things to say. The entire thing is pretty well mixed. Ideas are very cool, sound design as well. We can hear correctly all the different instrument. It's complex and chill. The kick is a bit low, but I feel like this is the way you wanted it, so it fit perfectly. I like when the amen break comes it gives nice little variations that does a really good job on the atmosphere.

Second drop is really good. It's different but keep the same chill ideas. Snare is a bit too wet but still cool tho.

I like what you did here.

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro

indestructible studio standard for years now;
when i use these for 8hours in a row and then take them off - i feel naked.

then again it's always good to have a couple of different points of reference, so use the shittiest headphones or earbuds you can find and compare the sound once you're confident with a mixdown. remember that not every person who listens to your music will have the best headphones or audio equipment - in fact they'll most likely have the most basic speakers available, so make sure it sounds good on that, too.
Beyer are the best when you like your ear to be entirely covered. If you don't care, i would recommend Sennheiser HD 25 Basic or the HD 26. Those are also studio standard.

HD-25's are Djing standard but not production, the low end on those headphones are basically non-existent in a production setting.
ye my bad, I though of those, because I use them for record in the nature.

Thank you guys for reply. It looks like Beyerdynamic DT990 is what I might looking for, they're not so expensive, which is good. Anyway, what do you think about AKG brand? 8)
AKG are fine. Tho, if you like the Beyerdynamic, try the DT 880 or 770. Cheaper version but as good.

Pay what you want. or just a free download. I mean the best example I can think of is Pretty lights, he releases all of his music for free. and he's huge now. I don't think getting your music signed is a bad thing but ultimately you can control it. maybe you get signed by a label that does free download for a like. I think that's a decent compromise.
That's why I love bandcamp :D

I like bandcamp too the only problem being that it does seem tougher to draw people to it. Its easier to have a big label do the marketing for you. you have a good point though.
I 100% agree :D

Sound Design / Re: The official growl bass thread.
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:30:29 pm »
but what if we have no idea where to start?
Record your voice. Distortion, and you have the first one. Open a synth Sine Wave, slow LFO tools, Distortion, second one. Etc....

https://clyp.it/s1dm45id so I took your original thing and I turned it into some weird reese/neuro thing idfk it wasn't a growl but I experimented with loads of different effects and it just shows what you can do if you really experimenet

try it more, and more, and you'll magic happen ;D

WIPs / Re: Original Ochestral Dubstep track I'm currently working on
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:15:26 pm »
Thanks! I'm aware of that, but please consider this is only a work in progress with a simple master chain on it. The final track will have really dynamic ranged orchestral intro/main parts (RMS around -6/7 Dbs) while the drop will be more aggressively compressed and dubstep oriented with an RMS of around -3/4 Dbs. Right now I'm more focused on the sounds and structure, so, I'd really love to receive feedbacks on that  ;) And maybe ideas on the drop, because right now I'm not sure if going for melodic but still growly or going for a really fat and bass oriented drop.
Listen to every orchestral dubstep, to be inspired. Although WIPs with master chain isn't the best idea ever. Better to have nothing except a fast mix.
