Finished Tracks / Re: Azlo - Slow Motions

Some really great potential here :)

For me personally, I don't think the lead in the drop quite fits, and also the drum sounds. Not in terms of mixing, just in terms of the sound design/sample choice.

However it's mixed really well, I like the arrangement, the chords and arps sounds good. Awesome chord progression definitely. Overall i'd say pretty good! :D

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Why do you do it?
« on: January 07, 2016, 08:53:42 pm »
I started making music because I saw people like Skrillex touring and thought "damn I want to do that!" ;D

Obviously now i've grown out of that a little...

I think it's just really gratifying to have a piece of art you can call your own. Having a song which is personal to you and having some kind of emotional connection to a piece of music is a feeling you can't really get anywhere else in my opinion :)

Using FM8, but NOT for growl bass sounds :P

There is no right amount of layers, you just have to make it fit perfectly ofcourse.

This makes me think of a screen of one of madeon's tracks:

Classic Madeon ;D ;D ;D

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Software or Hardware?
« on: January 07, 2016, 06:24:36 pm »
I used to be only software and it worked fine for me. Recently however I bought an Arturia Microbrute as my first venture into hardware and I think it's a great little synth, however it isn't necessary.

If you have the money and prefer to use a physical instrument then go for it, but I don't think software-only producers will ever be held back.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / How did you learn how to make music?
« on: January 07, 2016, 06:17:48 pm »
You can vote for your two most useful resources :)

Also any specific recommendations would be great! I highly recommend a book called "The Artist's Way." It's not about anything technical; it's not even specific to music. But for exploring creativity and artistry i've never read anything more interesting :D

For me the tough part is getting the initial idea, that can take days, weeks, months...

But once I have the idea and it is a good idea then everything else just flows. :)

Thank you very much :)

Yeah honestly I agree, the saw was meant to be the main feature of the drop for sure, but perhaps I over did it :-[

I've got more tracks coming soon so i'll try to work on levelling out my mixes then :)

Hey, this is a great attempt for a first try at a genre :)

I'm no expert on making this kind of music, but I do like the genre, and i'd say the thing I like most is about how the drop hits HARD.

You've got the melodic chords down for sure, and an awesome beat, but it needs a sub and the drums could be more punchy. That way when it drops it sounds HUGE ;D

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the kind words :)

That's fair enough I'll definitely admit there isn't much variation there ;D I've got some more songs in the works right now so i'll definitely apply variation to those drums where I see fit. Thanks!

I'd describe it as melodic/ambient music. I'd love to hear what you all think :)

3. You know what I value more than materialistic things? Knowledge.

Here in my garaaaaaage ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though...
1. Learn your software/hardware. If you don't know what a button or dial does, work it out or read up about it. It's so much more valuable to have 2-3 pieces of software you KNOW than like 20 pieces of software you only use for one preset cus you don't know how they work.

2. This sounds odd, but take a while to copy others. Obviously eventually you'll want to find your own style, but I think the best way to learn the technical side of music is to copy/imitate and try to recreate a song or style. That way when it comes to developing your own style you aren't held back by your lack of KNOWLEDGE (and Lamborghinis)

3. Make a lot of stuff and finish a lot of stuff. You don't have to release it, just finish it at least. Why? Because if you keep starting songs and never finish them, you become better at not finishing songs. So even if you have lost hope in them, at least try to arrange them into a full track. You don't need to spend hours on it or polish it off, just finish the idea.

Hope I helped :)

I tend to have quite a range, but i'd say around 15-30. No more than 30 usually :)

It just depends on the style though; for me I try to produce quite ambient/synth pop music which doesn't require many different sounds, but for glitchy dubstep you would need lots of different layers.

If you want to get rid of layers you need to listen very critically; loop a part you think is too cluttered (probably the drop/chorus) and silence a layer you aren't sure about; see if it makes a difference to the song as a whole. If it doesn't make a difference, I take it out. Hope that helps :)

I just found your remix for John Cena ;D ;D ;D

Damn haha that chorus hits hard ;D

Awesome track it sounds so crisp and bouncy; exactly what electro pop should sound like :)

I'd agree with someone above, the fourth chord in the chorus seems off, if that's what you were going for then fair enough but in my opinion it doesn't really work.

Production wise I couldn't say much wrong with it, and other than that chord I really like it :D
