Mixing/Mastering / Mixing With a Lot of Reverb and Delay
« on: January 09, 2016, 01:27:52 pm »
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for getting a cleaner mix when you use a lot of reverb and delay in your music.

It's part of my style and I don't want to have to compromise it all that much by cutting down the reverb/delay tails or making the sounds more dry, but then a lot of people tend to say that if you use to much reverb the mix will start to get muddy and I see what they mean.

Any advice? :)

I've plugged it on the forum before, but I genuinely believe it deserves its own topic...

It's a book called "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.

The book at first seems pretty outlandish; it's quite spiritual and honestly I could have given up reading after the first chapter. It talks of a "God," however not in the religious sense, but in the sense of a creative flow of energy which flows through us all.

I know, I was sceptical at first, but I read through it, tried to put a few of it's tips into practise, and it's worked wonders for me. I feel so much more motivated and so much more creative :)

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / How did you learn how to make music?
« on: January 07, 2016, 06:17:48 pm »
You can vote for your two most useful resources :)

Also any specific recommendations would be great! I highly recommend a book called "The Artist's Way." It's not about anything technical; it's not even specific to music. But for exploring creativity and artistry i've never read anything more interesting :D

I'd describe it as melodic/ambient music. I'd love to hear what you all think :)

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Is it worth buying extra FX plugins?
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:49:36 pm »
At the moment I don't have any extra effects plugins and use Ableton's in-built stuff. It works for me, but so many people have additional FX plugins from FabFilter, Waves, iZotope etc. Just wondering if people really think it's worth the money, or is it just personal opinion? :)

Are there any specific plugins people would recommend?
