I'm a fan of a few indie-rock bands; Coldplay, Two Door Cinema Club and Fenech-Soler spring to mind :)

Thank you for all for the thorough replies; you've given me plenty to experiment with and try out so thanks! :)

I know very very little music theory and I don't feel like it has held me back creatively at all personally.

Being emotionally connected to your own music takes time, because it's got to be your music, and no matter how hard we all try, a lot of beginner producers are just imitators of other producers they like.

I'm not accusing you of copying or imitating, what i'm saying is you might not yet have truly found your own style which you are passionate about. This doesn't have to be entirely original; you could be insanely passionate about commercial EDM bangers for all I know, it just has to be what you truly love.

This might come about easier by listening to more music, or possibly by learning more music theory; I don't know. But I think once you are settled with a style you are truly passionate about and believe is truly yours, I think you will find it very easy to put the emotion into it :)

What makes me different from all the other people I know in the industry is I don't have any financial, or commercial ambitions, besides being able to do what I love every day, all day, and still afford food and shelter and the occasional bundle of plugins.

I'm not naïve - I know the majority of the artists are doing this for commercial and financial gain - but surely there must be a few producers with as much passion as you? :(

There totally are! Jake, Kill The Noise, is like that too, that's why we're friends. But the thing that separates him from me is he really wants the world to hear, and the world fucking should hear cus he's got a lot to say.

That's fair; I don't think there is any problem with a producer wanting people to hear their music, it's when money and fame become the main motivator that it becomes a problem.

It's a strange question, but do you think you would prefer being less famous than you are? Less attention and all that? Or do you just not care how many people listen?

Hey, i'm quite liking the sound of this :)

I really like the mixture of bells, acoustic guitar and the metallic ambient sound in the background in the intro :) very chilled and mysterious sounding.

However I don't think the hi-hats are mixed very well; there's a crash in there which I think should be more subtle, and the snare sample also doesn't fit in my opinion. I'd choose something softer. Also there is a lead sound that comes in around 0:40 which again I just don't think it fits the whole vibe and sound. Most of that could be down to personal opinion though :)

Hey, I listened to your remix of Smoke Filled Room and really enjoyed that so I thought i'd listen to this too :)

It's definitely got the essence of a nu-disco track; bright funky chords, nice simple drum beat, and some nice leads and arps. Also really like the bass guitar in the background at some points that fits in really well, as do the rhodes. I couldn't tell you much to improve the production quality it's above me ;D

What I would say is I feel like this song would really benefit some vocals in my opinion. If you could find a vocalist to get a catchy hook over this then it'd be really really great.

Overall though after hearing two of your tracks i'm definitely a fan of your work :)

Hey, this was a really nice remix i'm glad I listened :)

I think in terms of production quality I don't have to say much, it's all clear and crisp and I doubt I could improve it.

However it doesn't sound much different to Porter's own style, meaning I think you've chosen the wrong song to remix. As good a remix as it is, I don't think you've taken it in a new direction or added your own stamp to it. So I really like it yeah, but I don't think it offers much different to the original. Perhaps try taking a track from a different genre and turning it into this style :)

Finally just a few small petty things, personally I think the snares building up come in too soon and last too long but maybe that's just me, and I'm not such a fan of the guitar at the end.

Overall though it was pretty good :)

Well said if you want feedback you should give feedback.

Perhaps like a points system, where you give feedback and get points, and then to receive feedback you "spend" those points? Something along those lines :)

Hey man, I thought this was pretty good!

Your sound design is quality, I love the plucks at the start and the bass sounds are crisp. Very nice.

I'd say a few things I don't like though. I think before the first drop there isn't really much of a build up, and I think if you did have a distinct build up then it'd feel like the drop hits much harder. If you had either some rising noise or a synth which is being pitched up it might work :)

Also the section at around 1:50 with the snare drums in the background feels a bit too cluttered. I know the genre is meant to be glitchy and stuff but in my opinion the snares there don't work.

So yeah i'd say my main tip is arrangement could be better, but as I said the sound design is really really nice and production-wise it sounds really clear which is good :)

EQ/compression...

run an EQ after your reverb so you can see what frequencies the reverb/delay is filling up

running a compressor after the reverb will help control is a bit too

Awesome, i've never tried that either; thanks :)

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for getting a cleaner mix when you use a lot of reverb and delay in your music.

It's part of my style and I don't want to have to compromise it all that much by cutting down the reverb/delay tails or making the sounds more dry, but then a lot of people tend to say that if you use to much reverb the mix will start to get muddy and I see what they mean.

Any advice? :)
Bounce to audio every instrument with reverb and/or automate the delay/reverb volume. So you'll cut it when you don't need it, and put it back on when you need it.

I've not tried automating the reverb/delay, i'll give that a go. Thanks ;D
