;)

Welp. Welcome Last Island!  Since you're here, can you tell us about that sound at 0:15 and 1:20?  Synth?  That reverb? Give us some production insight!!

Sick song man.

Ableton's spectrum analyzer has the notes mode where you can see the notes.. I imagine most other eq's have a similar feature.

Because Serum has high-quality, low-aliasing waveforms, it does take a lot of cpu.  There is a setting on the OSC global tab that you can reduce the sample rate (you might want to do draft 1x).  Also, lessen the # of active voices if possible.

64-bit DAWs take advantage of RAM in excess of 4GB. If you don't have more than that, then you don't need it. If you do, use 64-bit where possible.

What I use:

EQ - Native Ableton
Reverb - Valhalla Room
Delay - Native Ableton (native VSTs, too)
Compression - Native Ableton
Synth - Hive/Serum/Zebra
Daw - Ableton

Again, hard to tell without an example, but you may be hearing the tail end of the crash.  And because the entire waveform has likely been compressed, the "hiss" you're hearing may be the end of the crash that typically is more silent.  As compression gets stronger, dynamic range decreases.

When there's new posts in a subforum, the "ring" is highlighted.

If I click on the board title itself and scroll through the "new" posts, then go back to the home page, the "ring" is turned off (as I have looked at all the new posts).

However, when I click on the ring itself, it only shows the new posts, which I like.  But for some reason, after I glance through these, and go back to the homepage, the ring is still highlighted.

I like clicking the ring to see only the new posts, but it doesn't "register" that I've seen them on the homepage.  If it could do both, that'd be great.  Otherwise, I have to go to the full sub-forum and look for the small "new" posts.

Very small issue - but it may be an easy fix.

Thanks for the consideration!

It's hard to tell without hearing a sample, but a lot of kicks do have a "noise" element to them.  If they didn't, it would be pure sine waves (808 bass) and not much difference between them all.  A lot of sample packs are compressed (over-compressed, probably) which could be the culprit.

Maybe post a sample and we could help you out more?

study room acoustics

Room acoustics is very important.  If your desk/monitors are placed against a wall (or in a corner), bass will reverberate and sound especially loud.

But yes, to "learn your monitors" requires you to know what your mix sounds like on YOUR monitors vs. how they sound elsewhere (car speakers, club systems, laptop speakers, earbuds, etc.).  Once you have evaluated a lot of your mixes on these different mediums, you'll be able to know your monitors (e.g. "I know I need to tone the bass down on my monitors to get a good mix" or "each time I listen to my mix on other speakers, my mix is too thin, etc.")

Any word on this? Am trying to embed a video now. No luck.

Not really surprising considering the fact he locks himself in his studio for 24 hours and comes out with a bunch of songs.

I wonder if he uses the Pomodoro Technique during those 24-hour sessions!?   :D 8)

Was at the bottom of a thread today.  Tried to navigate back to the homepage by clicking the large "The Producer's Forum" on the bottom lefthand side (in the same color bar as the twitter logo).  It's not linked.

I realize just a bit up from the bottom of the page is a "breadcrumbs" menu that includes a link to the homepage, but I thought if the Producer's Forum (copyright 2016) was linked, it would make it even easier.

If this is a quick fix, sweet. If not, not a big deal.

YES.  The sound at 15 seconds is so glorious.  Sweetness.

Agreed.

To summarize: Contrast is key.

I can never seem to make decent pads that sound organic, they always end up sounding too "synthy" if that makes sense?

Rylan, you may try experimenting with automation and randomisation.  I think for pads (or any sound for that matter) to sound "organic" requires some movement.  Try automating/modulating the phase, the detune amount, the pitch (very fine), even reverb.  On some synths, you can modulate via a "random hold" or "random glide" LFO.  This should give you some better results.

Also, wavetable synths (e.g. Serum) can bring a lot to the table, too.  More/morphable waveforms that may sound more "organic".

Hope this helps.
