Finished Tracks / Re: Xevious - Tears Of Trinity

The start of the song grabs my attention because of the musicality, nice! It evolves into a hands in the air track with good vibes.

Mix needs a bit more high frequencies, it's needs that extra 'sparkle'.

Arrangement is fine, it kept me listening until the end. Keep doing what you are doing, it sounds great!

I can never bypass a topic with 'acid' in the the title. :)

I like the feeling of the song. I thought the build up of the song was a bit too quick, but yeah, it's a radio edit. I like the arrangement of 'The Caustic Mix' better.

The vocal snippets in the begining are great (they are vocal snippets, are they?)

The filtered synths stabs are great and they give the song its nice groove.

The acid sounds are a bit too dry for me, I guess they could use a bit of reverb (only top end, otherwise the mix will get muddy).

This song contains everything to be called proper acid house, the mix just needs a little work.

Here you can check out some of my acid techno but please don't feel obliged:

Thanks manducator! The basspad thing is what you're talking about?

Yeah, it's the bass sound.

I'm not a big connaisseur of this genre but I like what I hear. You have a beautiful voice and the warped vocal snippets are nice.

Just one thing, I think it sounded a bit too bright to me and it lacks a bit of bottom end.

There's an easy way to change that; a tilt EQ.

I used Boz Digital's T-Bone on your song (that's of course not a really good thing to do after a limiter but it gave me an idea). I tilted the song 20 % to the left, adding a bit of low frequencies and attentuating the highs and that's just what this song needed.

Try it for yourself, you can always mimic the tilt with a regular eq.

I like the hihats right in the beginning of the track, I guess it's because of the reverb, the track gives a feeling of depth/space immediately.

In fact everything sounds crystal clear, the mixing is awesome.

The arrangement is as it should be; the diversion between percusiion, chords, lead keeps the track interesting.

This track is thought out and mixed so well, nice 'warm' bassline. I just don't know what to write about improving because it's perfect as it is.

Tracks like these are my reference tracks for mixing/mastering, the perfect sound I'm aiming for. What a great job!

It really doesn't matter what levels ur at, just make sure u don't clip (if unintended). Srsly, you can put ur kick at -10000 and just bring it back up with a limiter. Don't really get why this is even a discussion hahaha.

It's not really a discussion to me either, but with a tracktitle like 'Starting With Kick and/or Snare/Clap Hitting at 0 DB', my first thought was about clipping.  8)

Funny, how vinyl noise always catches my ears and my attention.

I like the build up at the beginning but maybe you should add something between 1:00 and the part where the kick comes in.

There's another long break starting @ 2:40 and I think that's great, nothing missing, building tension.

The drums/percussion sounds mellow and suits the song very well, this is chillout, not a dancefloor filler.

Nice work!!

This has a nice melody! When the melody is heard in total @ 1:15, it's magic!

And the synthesis is good indeed. Keeping it simple is in most cases more effective than getting caught in modulation. Creative use of distortion.

The synth stabs on 2:45 sound a bit 'too stabby' to me, like you used a comp with a release time too long, or something like that. Because of the filtering, it's not that noticable in the first part of the song.

All in all it's a great song with a touching melody!

Thank you very much for your comments, Elixir, I appreciate your opinion, but I doubth that the high end is non existent.  :D

Maybe I should create a bell filter around 3-4 kHz?

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing a track in 30 seconds with Pink Noise
« on: January 16, 2016, 05:00:54 pm »
When I start mixing, I pull all faders down and bring them up while using pink noise. It helps me a lot, although it's just a starting point, I tweak the faders later.

I notice I can mix faster thanks to this technique.

163
Of course I will!!

164
Thank you very much, ion.

The song doesn't contain a snare, it's percussion and lots of claps. I guess my next song will have a snare for some sharpness.

I'm not at my pc right now but I will review one of your songs this evening, promise!!

Width is about how much left and right an instrument is panned (or in the middle). Sounds easy but the possibilities are countless.

Panning a sound left and a very short delay (lets say under 15 ms) panned to the right, gives the impression of wide sounds. Read something about the haas effect:
http://edmproduction.wikia.com/wiki/Haas_Effect

Listen with headphones:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PFgCrvwByo

Chorus, phasers, flangers and delays are all tools that give you a chance to play with stereospreading.

A stereo reverb on a mono sound can give a nice stereospread too, although the source stays mono.

About depth; volume faders are your friends; volume lower is futher away in space, louder is more in your face.

Reverb plays a big part in perception; more reverb, it will sound further away.

Make use of the proximity effect:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proximity_effect_(audio)

When you roll off lower and higher frequencies, you create the effect that something is further away, add those frequencies and it feels like something is closer to you.

Here's another video about depth:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MdE1adTCu0&list=RD-PFgCrvwByo&index=5

When you automate all these effects, you can create movement through space.
