just the default q setting(which is 0.71 I think?)

Why does this happen? it's really frustrating when I'm trying to mix. Does anyone have any insight on this? I haven't been able to find anything  :(

Sound Design / Re: What's the weirdest sound you've created?

it just fills out the frequency spectrum more, and if you layer it with synths in kinda glues it together. it's all about levels though. some gentle white noise might do wonders for your but if it's even a bit too loud it can be overbearing. some white noise drenched in a cool reverb can also add some really cool ambience to a song

it'd be really cool if it was zedd and skrillex haha. I mean two of the remixes are of zedd songs and one is of a skrillex(jack u) song, but thats probably just a coincidence lol

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: What/Who inspired you to start?

in 2013 I heard Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites for the first time (I know late af). I was like "holy shit" and started messing around with some dumb apps on my laptop until I got "magix music maker", which is like a really limited daw, and then eventually I got ableton. now here I am almost 3 years later!

I agree with bjorn. if you're inexperienced, its just going to be like that for a while. new plugins won't help. what is important though, is just studying and practicing with what you have until you're satisfied with the results. then you can look into new plugins, and since you know how to use them, the new plugins will make your mix sound even better! just practice practice practice

So over the past 2 days I took what everybody said and did what I thought was best for the song. here's the updated version(which is most likely the finished version but Im going to give it at least a week)

it's cool that you're trying something different! to be honest the chord progression doesn't make much sense to me though. the notes/basses you used in the drop also seem kinda random. look into music theory! search for Varien's music theory tutorials on youtube they're really good. i'm pretty sure he has some mixing tutorials too. the mix and sound design definitely need work. there's a ton of helpful tips on this forum already so go take a look at the mixing & mastering section, and if there's something you don't know, look it up!. for sound design i highly recommend SeamlessR on youtube; all of his tutorials are super good.

this sounds good man! i feel like the build at 0:53 could use some work. maybe try something other than the repeating kick or have another percussive element building with it. and i'm no expert in liquid dnb, but is the sub usually panned and stereo like that? i think some minor variation in the drums would be really beneficial too, it gets a little stale. nice work though!

i'm fairly sure that it's your dithering. turn it off and see if that changes anything

Mixing/Mastering / Re: DONT MIX WITH ANY HEADPHONES MADE BY BEATS BY DRE!

honestly it doesn't matter what you mix on (ok it kinda does but not as much as everyone says) as long as you know your equipment inside and out you'll have great mixes.  also, reference a ton

@frissont yoooo thanks for so many suggestions! I'll definitely take all of those into account. i especially agree with the auto panning on the percs that'd really help keep it interesting

I actually started producing soley because I heard "Scary monsters and nice Sprites" and was blown away. no musical knowledge prior to that (actually not even that much musical interest). I've been trying to learn to play the piano for about a year now (been producing for 2 1/2 years), and I know how to play, I'm just not very good yet haha.

I'd agree with what everyone has basically said. If you can't tell who made a song, and it's easily replaced by another, then it's generic.
