what monitors would you recommend heatcliff? I was thinking of the tannoy reveal 802's since I have actually really liked my 501's. I'm thinking about maybe getting a sub too

thanks marrow! I'll check around for repair shops, but I've kind of been wanting to upgrade, so maybe I'll take this as hint that I should haha.

Hey everyone! so i've had Tannoy reveal 501 monitors for about 1 1/2 years now. lately I've been noticing that the left speaker has been rattling when sub is played, and there seems to be distortion(?) with the high-ish mids. this has just recently started happening, so any idea what this could be? is it time for a replacement?

I use the drums that came with komplete(battery mostly) and tweak them/make my own drums out of them. sample magic has some really good packs though. the chill wave pack is ace

that sounds like it's definitely happening because of a limiter or another sort of compressor. try turning it off when you mix if you're using one

I use ableton, so I can't really help with FL's native plugins, but they gave a pretty good run down on what you could do. just remember to ALWAYS use a very small click or something like that to activate the sidechain. don't use your kick or snare. using a click gives you way more control

Sound Design / What does a good transient look and sound like?

I've just recently started really caring about transients when making my drums, but I'm confused. on some of my fav drums(madeon's to be specific) there isn't a "transient" right at the start of the drum, but they're still punchy and clear. I'm just wondering what a good transient """"should"""" look like and sound like.

I think the sound you have is pretty close. it just might not seem like it because of all the other sounds on top of it in the original song. I bet if you turned it down a bit and put more effects/sounds on top of it like in Luma, it'd be 99% the same

edit: i was listening on my phone speaker when i wrote that. what reverb are you using? that can play a big part in the sound. also cut eq out some of the lows/mids and boost the highs a bit to make it airy-er

I definitely have the same mindset. now that I think about it too it does seem to be a bit detrimental, but it totally depends on how you look at it. saying "this is the hardest thing I've ever done on my life" could be bad if you think "man, I can't do this" and totally underestimate your actual ability, but if you look at it like "man, this is super hard and I've stuck with it for so long and learned so much. I'm proud" it can be really motivating. so I guess it's all about having a good mindset about your mindset haha

i'd say base your decision off of the position you listen to the most music in. i think when people say "learn your monitors" they mean it as "listen to a bunch of music on them".

yo thanks man! I'm definitely gonna try to experiment with layering, I'm almost 100% sure that's what it is too

Recently I've just been using mid/side eqing to achieve a wider stereo image. it's improved my mixes immensely
