@ Nadav - I will kindly disagree with a few of your comments. Sure your hands can make music but to think that your brain is not involved in that process is odd.

Also remember that everyone works differently. Everyone grasps things a little differently.

Seriously, this is music. You gotta friggin practice.

To just say "you gotta friggin practice" is a weak statement. You can practice all you want. It doesn't always mean that you will have that great creativity. A writer can write, but does he/she always write gold? Nope. And just like them, we to get "writers" block.

As for the emotional character lives in your hands comments, all I can say is my hands feel no emotion. Emotion comes from inside for me. The way a chord strikes or vocalists hits a certain note, can affect us emotionally.

My point is, we are all not the same.

For me, its quite the other way around. When I was starting out I rarely got too overwhelmed about music related stuff and everything was pretty fun. Now as I get better the frustration and angst increase. It's getting worse every year as I get better.

Think about what you said here. "As you've gotten better, its getting worse."
I think the reason for this is that you are more seasoned, and now you are probably hearing things that you didn't before. When you first start, everything is new and fresh. Everything sounds "great". When in reality what you thought was great, may have not been. So basically your standards for making music have gone up, as they should. I think this is normal. Don't let it get ya down and especially don't let it keep you down.

Maybe this is the case for you, maybe not. Its just what I picked up on from what you said and compared it to my process. Best of luck!

Sounds good! I'm not familiar with the original but I like how this sounds.
And I've always wanted to know how to do the progressive house stutter thing. You use it at 1:37. Good job overall!

Sometimes a sample pack may have 25 tom hits, and only 5 are good. Just because they're from the same pack doesn't necessarily mean they're all good quality. Could be, but not guaranteed.

Sometimes? It feels like all the time. lol.

The build quality of the NI Audio 6 is questionable imo. I had issue with mine so I took it back to Guitar Center and bought a Tascam US4x4. Ive been happy ever since.

So my vote would be for the Steinberg or Focusrite. I think you should be good with either one of those.

When I start a new project my master channel is at 0db. It never moves.
I start all my tracks or midi lines at -10db.

I use Voxengo Elephant to monitor my waveform. If it goes above -6db, I correct each track or the track that is making it go over the -6dbs.

Appreciate the info! Looks like I'll be playing around with some vocals tonight. Thanks!

Sound Design / Vocal FX (Making Female Sound Deep)

Curious to know how others go about getting a female vocal to sound like a deep male voice.

I've tried the transpose -6 to -8 thing, but for me to get it closer to that "Tchami" style I have to use a plugin. For that I use Elastique Pitch. It doesn't work great all the time with every vocal sample but I've gotten it to sound better than the transpose thing.

So this is my method but I know there is a another way to do this. How do you do it?

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Tell us your master chain!

I recently redid my master chain by removing all but two things. I'm not an audio engineer and I haven't done music for years and years. I've kept more focus on the tracks themselves lately as I kept messing up my work by trying to add this and that on the master channel. Plus I'm in an apartment with no subwoofer. So for now I will accept the fact that I will have someone else master my work. With that said, here is my master chain....

Seven Phases Spectrum Analyzer
Voxengo Elephant (Not for the limiter but for the WAV graph.)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Sticking to one main volume/pan position per track

It gets tedious as hell though if you ever have to move all of them.
Doesn't it!

I like what Logic has done with splitting automation into absolute and relative, but it's still not a perfect solution.

What drives me crazy in Ableton, and maybe Im doing it wrong, but when you select a group of automations to move, it doesnt do them precisely. If all are on an even db, say -10db and others at -15dn & -12db on one track, when I move them they adjust weird. I want it to move them all 5db or whatever and they will be from say -10db to -14.33 instead of going from -10db to -15db. Drives me nuts.

I use volume automation on just about every track. I feel like I have more control over the whole song to make certain parts stand out over others at certain times. It gets tedious as hell though if you ever have to move all of them.

Schematic missed one big tip.
-6db
You should always leave headroom for the mastering engineer. The less you leave the less they can do.

Samplemagic AB is pretty good. You can have up to 8 reference tracks.
