I really feel like I'm one of only a few producers that have these headphones. I absolutely love them. Comfortable, lightweight, and I get a true clean sound.

Pioneer HRM-7

For $200 these have been solid for me.

They compress their files. Regardless if you upload a WAV or MP3.

your track needs to sound just as good or better than the stuff being released to the label you want your demo to be heard

so reference your tracks to the released material

I don't think he is talking about the overall sound. Seems like he is wanting more technical reviews. Like use more of a HP filter here or there. Or maybe someone can hear a phasing issue or something.

Plus one to Wontolla. Sometimes you just never know until you put it up.

Now I do think it depends on the remix itself. I for one label it as a bootleg since I do not have permission from the artist. I doubt that helps but that's just what I do.

As for the sounds in the remix, if you have parts from the original, it would be easier for the software that scans the song to pick up on that and flag it. (I'm assuming that's how it works.) If you are remixing and using MIDI files, then its less likely to get flagged imo as you are not using any original sounds.

Also if the remix you are doing is part of a competition, then it will most likely never get flagged as the label doing the contest wants you to upload to whatever platform. Therefore they will not flag it.

Whenever I have the option, yes. The larger the speaker and the higher the dB SPL, the more obvious the degradation, particularly in the high end.

Will the drunk, high, or rolling people notice? Probably not. Will the sober people? Maybe, but with how few people seem to wear ear protection at these events that could change. ;) But you'll definitely start to notice, and I think it's worth it in the long term to invest in something that won't risk being accentuated by a FoH limiter or a DJ Mixer's effects/EQ knobs.

Thank you for the insight

I was going to say that I would be surprised if a DJ wasn't using WAV files to mix at festivals or a club. Only makes sense to use the best quality option available.

You are me about 4-5 months ago. Used Massive like crazy, but then got introduced to Spire. Now I open Spire before Massive.

awesome thank you, now is there a way to do this same thing in cool edit for vocals?

You could just set your entire project to mono and adjust from there.

or find a stereo width plug in, and make sure that it has mono capabilities and slap it on w/e instrument/channel you want to check it out on

I work in Ableton so Im not familiar with FL, but seems more CPU friendly to put the plugin on the master and then just SOLO whatever track you wanna test the MONO on. That's what I do at least.

Just tossing out an idea...

Could it be a frequency clash? He stated it is on that specific hit, and all I could think is that certain frequencies are cancelling others out possibly.

Interesting.

Now Im not going to pretend to be an expert on the mastering process, but I think I can clear up the -6db stuff. If you master your own work, you can put the premaster dbs at whatever you like. However, if you are sending it off to be mastered professionally, the -6dbs is necessary to give the engineer all the headroom he may need for your specific project. Everyone uses different processes to get similar results. At least that's my take on it.

Look into Elastique Pitch. They have a newer version Elastique Pitch 2, but I only have the old one. Super easy to use. You can go from chipmunks to deep low voice. I have found that it works best when changing a female vocal to deep male.

Also people have mentioned Melodyne.

I recently built some drum racks using the SPF Samplers Deep House samples. I just made a rack for the kicks, then the snares, claps, ect.

Appreciate the feedback!

There won't be any live recordings so that shouldn't be an issue.

Mixing/Mastering / Studio Time, For The First Time
« on: April 11, 2016, 10:48:47 pm »
I'm about to schedule some studio time and it will be my first time working in a studio with an engineer. I've got the two tracks I want to work on and my goal is to basically finish them off. Rather it be completing the mastering or tweaking some sounds, whatever it may be. I'm also doing this just to get the experience since I produce solely out of my apartment.

So, I'm curious if there is anything I need to know ahead of time. Any do's or don'ts. Anything I should expect that maybe I'm not thinking of. I just want to be fully prepared and maximize my time and workflow.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I have the JBL 305s. You won't be disappointed. I think I paid $200 for the pair, new, on Amazon. I was quite shocked at the price and had to pull the trigger.

Ive never had the KRKs but I hear they are more bassy. Ive never had them so Im not 100% on that.

If you can afford the Yamahas, do it.
