Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: connect two chord progressions

Yeah thats a good point ! Rhythm should stay , So u dan Groove to it. Notes can change though :-)

I wouldn't make such a strict rule, what I meant was more like... some things can stay. Don't change everything.

Maybe kids nowadays have more time, letting Wolfram Alpha do their homework? 30 this year, yet to become successful.

There are two forums here for feedback already, and neither is very active, so I doubt that another one would help with that situation. But there is actually such a forum in Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/roastmytrack

Browsing that forum you will quickly realize that it just doesn't work... people are too nice.  :-*

except in the case of DSP chips, where the benefit is reduced CPU usage.

Bingo

But that doesn't help with VSTs at all. It's more like playing games that are built in the graphics card...

Just to clarify, the quality of the sound card matters only for recording and output to speakers (AD/DA converters). So comparing to a GPU is not very accurate, except in the case of DSP chips, where the benefit is reduced CPU usage.

Sound Design / Re: How can I "make" a Massive scream Filter
« on: May 09, 2016, 12:45:05 pm »
Haven't tried it but it looks to be a resonant filter with inbuilt distortion? In serum the distortion FX has a filter, so you could try to keytrack the frequency of that filter. You can do that by modulating the frequency with the "Note" modulation source.

^ Off-topic, but declipping is actually possible to some extent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcq0zsdJRxE.

Yeah don't underestimate the effect of transition FX and fills, you can connect things surprisingly well with those. But an easy way to make your parts more cohesive is to use similar rhythmic patterns and/or melodic lines in different parts. For example, your melody in the chorus could have a similar rhythm to the verse, but different notes. Or vice versa. It sometimes helps to think in terms of varying motifs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motif_(music)).

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mono Supersaws

Do you have any example of a track? Are you sure the supersaw is not mono in the first place, with just a bit of widening from something like a reverb?

Cheesy 80's ballad.

I think the best thing you can do is try really hard to sound like someone else, then fail miserably, and end up making something completely different in the process. Just a while ago I read in an interview that Skrillex tried to imitate Noisia and the result was what you hear on Scary Monsters.

Probably something like one hour for a 3-4 minute track. But I never do it in one sitting, I like to design sounds and mix as I go, so it's hard to estimate.

@Mussar, would be cool to hear some of those tricks  8)

^ That's such a good point about working smart. Lots of people seem to obsess about the number of tracks you have to produce, about how many hours you have to work before you hit a certain level of expertise. But those hours of work are not progress if you don't keep actively learning new things.

Serum for pretty much everything. Sytrus for some simple basses and when I want to use the special features of the FL piano roll like portamento notes.

Sound Design / Re: Serum Modulating Pitch Like Massive
« on: April 23, 2016, 08:13:21 pm »
^ The way I understood the problem is that if you want to smoothly modulate the pitch by e.g. an octave, it's not that simple because you have to use the "coarse pitch" parameter. The problem is then that because the modulation amount is an integer, there's no setting that corresponds to exactly an octave. The "semi" parameter changes the pitch in jumps of semitones, so it doesn't work for this.
