Starting to be pretty happy with the arrangement and sounds on this. Any comments on what works and what doesn't would be appreciated!

EDIT: updated version

WIPs / ID | electro house, 80s vibe

Hi,

I would appreciate any comments on this new track I'm working on. I think I'm pretty close to being done with it, apart from some polishing, so I would love to know if there's something that sounds off, or if something's missing that the track would really benefit from.

I feel like with I finally nailed the sort of style I've been after with this one. Not going to deny certain French influences!

Just found this amazing royalty-free sample library of all kinds of studio recordings:
https://www.conversesamplelibrary.com/

By a quick glance there are some great vocals, basses, saxes, and drums there.

WIPs / Embers | 128 bpm, house and fart noises

Hi,

So I wanted to make a Deadmau5-style chill house track but things got a bit out of hand. I'd appreciate any feedback on sounds, writing and mixdown. In particular, does this make you move at all? Is there something that is super awkward (or is there anything that is not :D)? Also, do you think it's a good idea to end the track like this, or does it need an outro?

Sound Design / Snares
« on: January 24, 2016, 07:56:50 am »
It would be cool to hear from people how they approach snares, i.e. do you use samples, or do you synthesize them?

If you use samples, what are your go-to libraries?

If you synthesize, do you have any tips to share? I started digging into snare synthesis, and found this great recent tutorial by SeamlessR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A7oFpmXuls. The basic idea for snare synthesis is pretty simple, but what really makes the sound is adding reverb in the different components, and glueing them together with compression. I also noticed that it's easy to make your snares more interesting by creating any kind of "metallic" sound (e.g. some of the stock wavetables in Serum), band-passing, and setting the envelope so that it gives a nice metallic "ring".

WIPs / Electro house [updated with cowbell]
« on: January 10, 2016, 09:46:15 pm »
Hi! It would be nice to hear some feedback/ideas on this house track I've been working on. I'm reasonably happy with the composition and most of the sounds, but since I'm a complete noob in EDM, I don't feel very confident about the track. Especially the second drop at around 2:00 doesn't sound quite as badass as I would like.

I haven't really started properly mixing this, but mixdown tips are of course very much appreciated.

And... shit. As I'm writing this I realize that the lead in the end sounds like Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons. Wat do? :-X

EDIT: Updated version here. I think it's definitely an improvement thanks to you guys.

I added some reverb to the arpeggio pluck and to Ralph. I had trouble fitting reverb anywhere else, so instead I embellished the funky parts with some reverse reverbs. And cowbell; I feel like I'll probably ruin the track if I go for anything more complex. As for the drums, I couldn't find a better snare sample (I suck at drums) so I left them unchanged for now.
