WIPs / Re: My First Attempt At Dubstep
« on: September 01, 2016, 09:56:29 am »
I have a lot of the same critiques as the last song, to be honest - It feels like you're just pushing it to be full energy all the time and there's way too much high frequency content blasting at all moments. The drop basses are really tight, but they have NO impact because all you're doing is blaring crash cymbals and hi hats and white noise nonstop from the moment the song starts to the moment the song ends.

Take some time to reference some tracks off of Firepower Records or Never Say Die Records - artists like SkisM, Must Die!, and Eptic. In particular, and I cannot stress this enough, pay attention to what's going on in the top end. Your songs have a ton of potential to be absolutely massive, but you suck all the weight out of your tracks and exhaust your listener's ears with all that hissy and noise-based content.

Aka, dynamics make or break a track.

Another suggestion I have is once you bring it back the 2nd time, use different sounds completely, but follow a similar rhythm. The lead is sick, but I'd suggest something grimier for the 2nd time around. Adds more range as well as changes it up!

Hey thanks for the feedback. And whem you say the 2nd time do you mean the drop? or build up/ intro. Like I said its my first attempt.

P.S: I use gaming headphones to mix so I should probably invest in some legit headphones.

Honestly IMO mixing isnt that important. Composition makes or breaks a track, you can get someone to mix/master for you and slowly learn more of that over time.

1st drop is at :41 second part im talking about is at :55. Adding in something grimier would spice up the track! For a first attempt it's actually really good. Dynamics are key!

WIPs / The Middle - DJ Snake (Future Bass Remix)
« on: September 01, 2016, 04:07:54 am »
Haven't listened to this song since it came out and I was driving home from work today and randomly a future bass remix of the song popped into my head. Here's the rough base draft. Enjoy!

Don't give me advice on the mastering. Just did a base quick master don't really care about the rest for now. Composition>Master.

Lmk what you think!

Sound Design / How Do I Make This Sound?

@54 seconds exactly. It repeats at the beginning of every new phrase during the chorus. Has a sort of chiptuney element to it, but sounds clean and modern.

I need to know! I'm good with lots of different types of sound design, but crunchy synths and remade chiptune I'm absolutely horribl with. Any ideas?

James Egbert - The Void (One of the few electro albums you'll ever hear. He's keeping electro alive and I lovveee him)
Mat Zo - Damage Control (One of the greatest electronic albums ever made IMO)
Mat Zo - Self Assemble (Different, with a few better tracks than Damage Control, but overall is less consistent in quality)
The M Machine - Just Like EP (One of my favorite house EP's of all time. Don't Speak gives me the most intense feels every time)
Keeno - Life Cycle (Chill D&B. Fucking fantastic)
Haywyre - Two Fold Pt. 1 & 2 (Enough said. If you haven't heard either, who dafuq are you m8?)
Geotheory - Futuristic Love (I've known him since his first upload and seeing this album finally come to life was huge for me. I'll always support the fuck out of him)
Fractal - Gaia (If you're feeling some Neuro-Dub-Ambient vibes. Sounds like a weird blend, but he makes it work EXTREMELY well)
Feed Me - Calamari Tuesday (Classic as fuckkkk)
Spor - Caligo (Best d&b ever)
NIN - With Teeth (I would bang Trent Reznor)
Mutemath - Vitals (alt/synthpoppy. Really any of their albums are fantastic)
Xilent - We Are Virtual (Best glitch based music you'll ever hear)
Olafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter (Production based classical music. Sounds gay as fuck but trust me, Olafur is a legend and has done MANY movie scores. This album is pure emotions)
Mr. Bill - IRL (can he even be genred? not really. glitch hop sort of but totally not at all. dude is a mad cunt)

That's all I got for now. Listen to any of those albums and you won't be disappointed. I tried to grab a variety of albums to suit your taste and to open your eyes to amazing music you might not have heard before. Enjoy it brahhhh

It keeps your attention until the drop. The drop just becomes too repetitive with no change-ups. Besides that I'd have to say this is more Bass House than Future House.

Solid composition. Sounds like alot of samples and presets were used though. Sound design isn't super original, but idk if that's what you were going for so w/e. Plus composition is far more important than sounds, so props.

I feel like the drums get lost in the mix quite a bit. Bus sidechaining will fix that. If you don't know how watch some tuts! It'll help a lot. Even I don't have it completely down so don't worry. xD Just tip.

It's solid, but something about the melody during the "chorus" is just not grabbing or memorable. It feels like it would make a good downsection instead and something more grabbing as the chorus/dropsection.

Just my opinion!

Besides that the sounds are good and fitting. I would also say the drum section could use some fills/changeups.

Enjoy yooo. Gonna rebuild a new intro from scratch I just want something there as a placeholder. Master is basic as of rn. Very minimal sidechains and okay eq's. LMK what you think of the composition and lines! It's been a fun one.

Also with every track I make I build my sounds from scratch, or I take old presets I've made and then edit them to how I want them for the track. Like the bass sound in this track is actually the lead bass in one of my other songs, but I instead here made it a stabby pad bass sound.

Anyways, enjoy it and give me sum o dat feedback yo!

Finished Tracks / Re: Yung Again (Future Trap!)

dude i like that. i like more of a buildup type thing right before the drop, but that sound is so nice. keep making things more wild, thats always more fun:) thanks for this one man keep it up

Thanks man! It was fun to make. I purposely didn't have a build on the first one for a reason. I wanted to keep the 2 halves noticeably different, while still keeping them similar. Hence the build on the 2nd drop but not on the first. As well as the 2nd drop was more intricate and energetic. :)

Hey guys I got a wip of a bunch of ideas thrown together in a track. They're not meant to flow together, just conceptual ideas. Let me know what you think of them! Feedback is hugely appreciated. :)

Thank you!
