Mixing/Mastering / Re: a rather unusual question about panning and stereo
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:19:16 am »
Yeah cool dude. I didn't really mean that quite the way it was written. What I meant was, it's important to be able to hear everything pretty clearly with a Mono signal for a club track, because a lot of club systems are geared up that way (Mono). Stereo and panning for sure is still very important for those listening on headphone or at systems at home.

Maybe I wasn't the best person to answer your question, it's a difficult one haha!

haha yeah i get it :) def a great input, thanks !

the basic ? yeah of course ! a pc, a daw, and a speaker should be fine. i'd definitely suggest trying to dive in first, getting to know what's ahead of you (in terms of studying music). if you like it then you invest more, if not then yea

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Piano Plugins?
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:55:26 am »
i think it depends on how you play it (or how you draw it). just play around with flam or just variate velocities. good pianos maybe lounge lizard (def for wurlitzer tho)

just pick one vst and start with it. when you kind of master the whole controls, moving around different vst (even different type of synth) will be rather easy, because most controls are similiar. maybe learning a thing or two but that ain't a problem right

At the same price you can get a pair of Yamaha HS7 or even 8. Depends on what you use it for. Yamaha's sound is really cool, it's flat. Which means, if your music sounds good at Yamaha, it will sound good everywhere (almost :)) We're using the previous generation, HS80M. Absolutely satisfied.

You can even notice some old NS10 in a lot of professional studio, most of them are used just to check the sound.

Hope it helps. ;)

really ? i think HS8 is somewhere $700

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: [HELP] KRK static
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:46:45 am »
it's the interface. maybe you need to put a copper wire somewhere and do a ground to it ? (whatever it's called)
that might reduce the static~ try it try it

WIPs / Re: How do I make my leads sound more smooth and not so raw?
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:42:45 am »
hm not a pro, but i think you could do with a bit more reverb ? + i think there's something in the sound that makes it peak a bit too much if seen on an EQ, probably mid~midhi
(btw this doesn't belong here, i think it's in WIP)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Elements of Mastering?
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:26:57 am »
yea scribit's probably right. mastering is probably just ten percent of the song. if you feel that it's more than that, then it's possible you're still mixing it. not saying that mastering takes less time though, it's similiar to pareto principle, if u talk abt it

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Side-chain
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:24:17 am »
In as small amount of words possible, Sidechain is the process of using the output of one track to control the action of a compressor on a completely different track.
can it be said as "compressing A using B, instead of using A's signal" ?
i'm just trying to make it real simple for myself :P

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Reverb on the entire mix?
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:07:45 am »
The objective of sending everything to a reverb bus to add 'glue' is really to make everything sound like it's been recorded in the same room.

I send everything at different levels to a reverb buss track, then move the overall volume of the reverb buss level up or down depending on how much overall 'room' sound I want to hear in my mix. There is an EQ after the reverb on this buss also that gets rid of the low end sound of the reverb, and some of the highs too.

It's a concept that works well for me. Just don't add too much room reverb on things like your Kick - it sounds a little weird IMO.
definitely doing this. i haven't tried putting the EQ after the reverb though. that should be nice, since i can just send everything there and just "hope for the best"
