Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: What/Who inspired you to start?
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:33:11 pm »
Back in 2007 i've discovered electronic music by listening to Alive 1997 by Daft Punk, was absolutely blown away by the live and by their song Rollin' & Scratchin (which is 100x better than the album version) and this made me want to produce music, then I discovered dubstep by a friend who sent me SM&NS in 2012, now i'm here :)

I like it dude! All up to that point anything after the blue I didn't really like tbh

Would you mind telling us what distortion you used in serum? Because I usually go for zero-square or sin-fold :)

Don't know if you're talking to me but the last part of the growl is weird af i know lol but when i'm using it i don't really go through that part ;D

for the distortion, it's just tube with the drive at 50% and the mix at 100%

I agree about the snare, it's too short IMO, jaxter basically said what I think!

Also, where is that picture from? I feel like I've seen it before.

Here's one I made with Serum using the percussive sample technique by Virtual Riot!

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Tell us your master chain!

ok without going into much detail it's actually something like:

Waves Center → SSL (Duende Native Bus Comp) → Maag EQ4 → Izotope Ozone 6 (Multiband Dynamics + Maximizer)

Don't forget Xilentify

Don't: Allow them to change YOUR music because they want it their way.

Example:
*Producer 1 sends WIP to a friend and asks for feedback.*
Producer friend: "I don't really like that bass/synth you have there" <- Wait a minute. He gave an opinion on what he thinks to your synth/bass in your track. Just because he doesn't like it, it doesn't mean that everyone else will also share that opinion. You have to take it with a grain of salt. If YOU feel that you're getting across the right
- Theme
- Emotion
- Style
of your track. Then stick with it.

Actually I did the opposite, I started doing music on FL and later buy'd a Korg MicroKORG, and later I learned to play guitar and bass myself

I'm playing the bass in a band and I think that it's really helping me while i'm producing!

Sound Design / Re: Dealing with "emptiness"
« on: January 07, 2016, 10:25:22 am »
Honestly it's good to leave in some empty space.
That way your song will sound more dynamic and if there's too much empty space, you can take care of it by mastering properly to fill those gaps.
More layers like pads, extra leads or sound effects like white noise or other fx can always fill up the song.
I like to think of the song as a big bottle. All your instruments are big rocks that fill up the bottle nicely but there are a lot of gaps left in between.
These additional layers and effects are like sand that smoothly fills up those gaps and makes it a full bottle aka a full song.
That's how I see it =D

I agree it can be great but there's always that feeling, when your listening to your mix, that something is missing but you don't know what can fill the gaps

Love it man!

The vocal is a bit too loud for my liking but it's a great song! :)

Sound Design / What's your opinion on Presets ?
« on: January 07, 2016, 10:19:42 am »
Hey guys, just wanted to know your thoughts about presets!

I'm more into creating my own sounds but IMO sometimes presets can be useful when I get a creative block or if I want to learn how a certain sound is made, and then fooling around with it to get a new sound

The main reason I use Glitch2 was their Tape Stop fx but I love to use the Lo-Fi or the Stretcher sometimes
