Sound Design / Re: Rufus "you were right" bass sound

that sounds like just a sine wave if you mean the subbass
Think I'll agree on Script, to me it does sound like a since wave subbass. IF that is what you're pointing out, when I pull it in FL and look at the oscilloscope, looks like this(Lowpassed everything else but that.)  http://prntscr.com/bks8du . Although, it's not stable like if you just hold it and have nothing on it. It does wobble, and not by when the note changes but it looks like it bounces up&down just a very tiny bit. Sounds like something I do since I just don't want a regular sub on the bottom. I'm new too and struggling with basic sounds as well, but that's my take on this xD Hope this helped somehow.

Guys I meant the rufus song not my song that's in my signature hahah. any tips on how to make the bass at :40 in the RUFUS song "you were right"

Sound Design / Rufus "you were right" bass sound

I am still learning on how to make even simple sounds but I want to make a bass sound like the one in this song (comes in around 40 seconds). It seems like a saw wave layered but guidance to getting to where it sounds like the bass would be appreciated:

WIPs / Re: House Kinda Track WIP

My first reaction is that there isn't anything that connects your build up and your drop. it just kind of switches. I would start there. other than that its a unique sounding track in a good way

Tell me what you think about it, mix or sounds or anything.

The contest ended and I didn't win but I put it out for free download. all thoughts and criticisms welcome.

I like building the track around the vocals because then you can take the lyrics and shape the sounds to represent that. its easier to control the sounds versus making someone change their lyrics which seems like censoring to ask for them to "make it happier" etc.

I like your bass sound and the general vibe of it. no real criticisms as I'm not listening on my monitors but it sounds solid!

I know that Morgan page for his podcasts just uses ableton and volume automation so you could do that route. that would be for more radio mixes where its mostly just playing a full song then mixing into another. you could use something like traktor or serato if you already DJ and just record but that's tougher. So you can technically mix using volume automation but don't expect amazing mixes from it.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Finding a vocalist

I like making remixes with songs with vocals but in terms of sending them to labels, blogs, etc. its better if its all original. anyone have tips on where I would find vocalists to work with? My local scene has only two people and their voices are extremely different from what I would like.

Sound Design / Re: What is the characteristic of a tropical house sound?

From what I've seen its just a saw-ish pluck layered with some sort of woodwind instrument.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: No Music Background...Thoughts?
« on: February 04, 2016, 06:18:08 pm »
I don't know any music theory personally and while you can't go wrong knowing theory. I like that I don't put myself into boxes creatively. If it sounds good it sounds good to me. I do make sure that i'm following some basic rules (keep within the key, chord progressions that work better etc). but its definitely not impossible. You just have to keep working at it.

Sound Design / Re: Future House/Deep House sound design, where to begin?
« on: February 03, 2016, 07:53:04 pm »
As far as I know, its primarily FM. some do use massive (Oliver Heldens) is the first that comes to mind.

This video goes over how to get a bass similar to Dusky's careless using massive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaOo_NvywcI

This one is a little more subdued. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaOo_NvywcI

This is more future house- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaOo_NvywcI

Sound Design / Re: How to effectively pitchbend 808s
« on: January 25, 2016, 04:40:58 am »
I think the easiest way is to use an 808 in a synth as opposed to samples then its just a matter of automation. if you're using samples then it gets a bit more troublesome depending on how much of a pitch bend you're doing.
