I like Vince Staples, just discovered Flume too. Thanks for the link!

From 1:00 on this is a nice driving track, but your beats need a bit of tweaking. Your snare sounds like it's just slightly behind the beat (poss. a sample trimming issue) and it's flamming a bit with the kick. Together they give the track a feeling like it's dragging a little. I can't tell if the kick on its own is ok (only listening in headphones), but it seems kind of slow, if you know what I mean. It doesn't sound very tight and seems like it might have a relatively long pitch envelope, or at least quite a long decay. Hopefully somebody else will be able to chip in on this.

Also - don't pan any bass sounds away from centre. You've got a couple of kicks off to the sides with all that low sub content included going extreme left and right.

The last thing I was working on I'd written down what needed doing to finish it, but every time I opened the project I ended up fiddling around the edges and not doing any of it.

Hello! Got a question about the bass in this track;
Miike Snow - Silvia (Sebastian Ingrosso & Dirty South Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny6qQxVlrus&feature=youtu.be&t=60

The bass seems so...woody? How is this synthesized? It sounds woody and hallow-ish yet full, tried to recreate it using various recipes but nothing has worked out they way I want to!

Bonus question: Is anyone able to figure out the bass movement/progression? I know that the track is in Gmin but I haven't been able to recreate the bass pattern,it seems so groovy and moving yet it sounds like a simple progression....going nuts!
You have Massive? I can get pretty close

Finished Tracks / Re: Ur Fool|Deep House

I wanted to create a song that had an old school deep house vibe

Nailed it.

I like this, I wouldn't do much else to it before calling it finished. It could use a little more atmosphere I think, but the simplicity of it works really nicely, imo. Props

This is good man. Not really got any comments to make on the production, apart from I'd probably believe you if you told me it was a professional production ¯\_()_/¯

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Getting your own WIP stuck in your head

This is just something of a curiosity question tbh, so the mods should feel free to banish it to the great internet recycling bin in the sky if they feel it's for the greater good of the forum.

Anyway, getting your own WIP stuck in your head: does this suggest that your tune is good, or merely catchy, or simply that you've spent too long listening to it? Or none of the above? Discuss. Or don't.

there is so much pressure from society to focus on a career, get married, and have kids.

I sometimes wonder about this. I've felt the same way at times, but why? A society isn't a parent that can give you disapproving looks for not wanting to be a lawyer or a doctor, so who or what is really doing the pressuring?

The best answer I can come up with is that really we do it to ourselves. We all know what our society's norms are because they make themselves obvious in any number of ways, and we can't help but absorb them. But the feeling that we have to abide by them is completely within our control.

I've reached a point where I've come too far and given up too much to stop writing music.

Sunk cost fallacy. If you're not finding it fulfilling, does it really make sense to give up even more of your time to it, or would you be cutting your losses?

Of course nobody wants to advocate 'giving up'. But maybe take a break from it for a while. A few months, maybe even a year or more. See if something else fills the space or you find you have more time for other things you find fulfilling. Or maybe you find you miss it and end up coming back to it, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yo,

That synth that comes in at 1:41ish sounds like it's out of tune with the bassline.

Really cool use of that vocal sample though, beats are tight too.

You can't embed private tracks - you have to just post the link

then i've taken a step back and said to myself, "it's ok if i have elements that aren't even in the main part of the song and their sole purpose is for the intro or for effect."

100%. I think it makes sense to build your track around one main idea, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't introduce new elements to your mix when you're working on your intro (although not so much on the outro).
