This is nice man. Meaty

The thing I'd work on is structure and transitions. The buildup to the drop isn't quite building the tension you want. On the plus side, the drop is nice.

That tom fill you're using could do with some quantising too, although at the minute it sounds a bit out of place in that track anyway - all your other drums are very tight and synthetic whereas that fill sounds quite rough and organic (I always seem to end up describing music as if it's food, don't ask me why). Maybe with some processing they'd fit better, but it might be best to just use something different. Keep it up though, it's coming along nicely.

Your bassline and kick are mushing together and making your low-end very messy. Frequency spectrum-wise the track is also very bass-heavy.

The name Triangles fits it well. I kinda like this tbh - it has a certain charm to it. :D To me there's not necessarily anything wrong with the beats you've used. But, I don't feel like I know enough about techno to know whether the simplicity of the track is good simplicity or bad simplicity, if you know what I mean. Hopefully there's some peeps on here into obscure, noodly techno :D

Interesting :D

That pluck in the intro (and later on) sounds very under-quantised, almost like it's there by mistake.

Where did you get the vocal from?

Nice! Tight production man. That kick is maybe a teeeeeny bit high in the mix, but just my opinion. Would be interesting to hear the original for comparison

Out of curiosity, what kind of music are you making?

I've found myself pretty much entirely using samples, occasionally from sample CDs but more often sampled from other records. As far as that goes, good sources depend a lot on what kind of music you're making.

I know there are some good sample CDs out there these days but I don't know shit about them.. probably need somebody else to chip in on that one.

One of my favourite snares is this one. SO good for layering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YADBm1ppbho

Not an expert on this, but to the best of my knowledge, extracting individual sounds from a full track is something of a holy grail. You can never do it perfectly because the harmonics etc. of different elements of the track will always overlap to some extent. Somewhat obviously, the more complex the material, the harder it will be to extract things from it cleanly.

Melodyne hints at being able to do it (one of the demos I remember was of an Adele track where they isolated the vocal from the intro), but I didn't have much luck with Melodyne when I tried it. Might just have needed more patience than I was willing to give it. The other tool I've tried is SpectraLayers. I had more luck with that, but it's still imprecise and insanely time-consuming. Anything with beats in is going to be particularly difficult because of the transient nature of drum sounds.

Interesting! Thanks for the knowledge..

'sup

The vocal mostly works up until about 0:39 but the next ten seconds or so sound kinda off.. the timing goes out and it sounds like it's being sung to different chords than the ones they've used. Hope that helps

Correction.. it's not a load of underscores, it just resizes your reply to like 0.001pt or something

If you want to get serious about music production, and anyone who disagrees here I just don't see how you could, but you need good studio speakers.

Mmmmhhh. Sure, you'll need them if you get to the stage of doing your own mixdowns, but I feel like you could get away without them while you're learning the basics of composition and sound design. I don't have monitors these days (though I use a friend's from time to time), but I'm much more confident about the music I'm making now than I was the last time I used monitors regularly. I'm tempted to say that headphones could be better than a particularly bad, untreated room even with good monitors, but just my opinion.

I don't mean to say that studio monitors are unimportant, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting into producing if all they have to go on is headphones.
