Sound Design / Re: EQing in white noise with supersaw chords, advice?
« on: October 01, 2016, 01:55:27 am »
how many supersaws r u layering? 4-5??

Yes
i dont think its a good idea to layer 4-5 supersaws, i think you meant leads
with the white noise trick, you need a certain type of chord progression, and have it in the bass note of your chords

you can do it on audio but i prefer to do snare build ups on midi cause its much easier to edit the notes

they've got the normal build up and uplifters with it, automation and eq

its the 1/4 notes for about 5 bars then 1/8, 1/16, etc  you have to play around a bit

if you use your ears, try think if its more than 1 snare, llan layers a lot, he says in his interviews

with samples and sounds, you cant get the same sound unless you are using the same sample or synth which is very difficult but you can get close to it, so try get your own sound

liking the stuff on freshly squeezed samples for trance/progressive :)
then you have the guys with vandalism and stuff

a lot of the soundbanks are crap out there and unusuable, you want to go with the trusted companies
i like to use the soundbanks for reference and practice sound design, its damn time consuming though and you have to tell your head to stop lol

69
whats holding you back? you have to shut off those voices in your head i think

heaps you can do panning, reverb, white noise, is the sidechaining on point?
EQ and compression is important, are you raising a bit of the highs or mids? cutting the lows, maybe its even the kick lol

picking synths is about practice and training your ears...

71
is it the metronome? is your software cracked properly? no pun intended lol

Sound Design / Re: Reverb Techniques

try set up some all ready pre made reverb settings so you can just drop it to save valuable time, you should already have settings in your return channel or bus in a template

the most important things in reverb are decay, pre-delay and size, dry/wet

heres an AMA by steve duda which will help

which big producers are you talking about? a lot of the big djs dont know how to make their tracks lol, they only know the surface of producing but not the mechanics

you see a lot of guys talk about their crazy eqing and compression but a lot of that isnt needed
compression is to add transient to the sound

joe la porta is a great mastering engineer
theres many but he has mastered for tiesto, above & beyond, BT, armin van burin, theres a list of his CV on his wiki

mastering is an art of itself, those engineers dedicate their lives to it!
