I have to wait until I grow old enough to have more freedom to handle my time.

This is not a terrible thing?

I started making music in college. I spent a lot of my freetime doing it, and it was okay. But I have gotten far better after college, and additionally, I now have a better job and money to spend on things.  Since graduating, I have gotten: a better computer (my old laptop would sometimes crash while exporting, would get underruns all the time), monitors (my old speakers were desktop speakers...), audio interface, etc.

There's no rule that says if you don't get a song signed before you're 21 that your career is over. Make do with what little time you have now, write down ideas, make notes of things you WANT to learn in the future, create patches in 30 minute blocks of time, I dunno.  But don't worry; you have a lot of life ahead of you.

you are spot on man, I'm saying yeah school/work whatever man, keep that, but work hard and fight on your music too, if you are a producer in your 20's you have nearly 50-60 years ahead of you lol,

you have to fight for what you want

ah, sounds very square sawish to me

heres a patch on NI massive, but play around with the decay

i think its different for everybody but it took me about 4/5 years to start to feel good about my production quality

but then i dont think you ever feel good, you always want to learn and improve

this is an endless road

if you're making original music, i don't see why would get your music taken down?

unless you have some unauthorized samples....
well the thing is SC is so lazy they take down anything with similar name too sometimes :D I read somewhere that some guy uploaded silent track and named it the same as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4%E2%80%B233%E2%80%B3 and it was taken down by copyright notice :D ridiculous...

that's different then....

they had major issues last year, even hardwell's own content was taken down

ahh soundcloud, i had a pro account for 4 years, uploading DJ mixes for fun and yeah my account got taken down lol, i remember when i uploaded an original track i made and it got taken down too lol, i still make mixes but its only the more mainstream top 40 tracks that get taken down with people making bootlegs with small edits out of them

recently soundcloud signed licencsing deals with major labels

i think still keep an account for soundcloud, when sending your demos out to labels, etc
cause soundcloud is the only platform right now that they look at

creativity is a muscle, like going to the gym etc and it has to be developed, you need to keep a very open mind and listen to lots and lots of music and study your favourite tracks out there

you need to learn basic music theory to get some chords going, you pretty much dont have a song unless you have a hook

and develop on from that with sound design
and dont use too many presets cause your sound will be dull

keep going man...

you cut how much frequency when there is clash between sounds

like kick and bass, they are in the same range and cut around 120z for bass so you can hear the bass over the mix

146
cool responses guys, thanks

147
no they have to sound different when you layer them, so they cover the high freq or mids or lows

148
need to use variations of closed hats, dont rely on 1 hat, it will sound dull
but dont overdo it lol

I'm older than most here, I imagine. Here's some things I began to learn at different ages:

By 16 I already played a number of musical instruments.

17 I began learning how to work in recording studios.

25 I really got into computers.

28 I began martial arts. I've trained ever since, and teach as well.

28-35 Read about 3000 books.

30 I began learning Danish and lived in Denmark for quite a few years.

30 I began to learn to really cook. I've kept it up, and can cook about any cuisine.

40 I learned HTML, web design and publishing.  I still do that.

40 I really focused on learning the craft of writing. I still do that.

Along the way, I've kept up with music production and recording technologies every step of the way.

I think as I've aged, I've actually gotten better at learning with more focus.

Heck, sex even gets better.

Fear not. : )

wow dude what a life story
