Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Layers of a song - explanation?
« on: July 01, 2016, 01:08:26 am »
if the song is bland, it means the melody and harmony isn't good enough, or you need to add more chords, interesting synths

the stab is used for songs that are quite progressive and build up etc

when i start to lose motivation or inspiraiton, i watch youtube videos of my favourite artists like an interview or live set or anything to get fired up again,

Sound Design / Re: "Aggressive" Sidechain Question....
« on: June 24, 2016, 12:22:07 am »
Ive seen some of the future bass stuff but i think sidechaing is only half the trick, its the notes and chords progressions that make that sound

yeah i think you should get LFO tool, its is a great plugin, along with nicky romero kick, the native ableton SC does the trick as well

remember the old skool saying,

its about having fun in the studio, so try and have fun and learn some new things, create stuff

thats what its all about man

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Creativity and Learning

i found that its not good to force it, cause you will make crap and then become sad in the studio

inspiration comes again and again

ill work on sound design, look at stuff on youtube, and then stuff will come in your head again, i think its a muscle cause you have to handle happiness and dissapointment in the studio

126
try ADSR man on youtube

this is old skool advice but you have to copy presets from your favourite synths and watch a lot of videos

so start from an empty preset and try build your sounds

When you get good, you can build your own sounds, that dont sound like presets

this was told to me from a pro producer, the thing is, is that most people dont put in the effort to learn their synths inside and out

there is no other way my man, you have to punch through, unless you wanna tweak presets but even then you have to learn your synths, 6 months just isn't long enough man, its going to take a couple of years before you get a decent sound

a sine wave is used for bass sounds, saw is for leads, etc in electronic music

Suggestions / Re: A discussion area for music arts philosophy
« on: June 13, 2016, 01:32:31 pm »
you barely make money from productions cause people download illegally

but you have to try and get your tracks played by the bigger djs and on the bigger labels, on their radio shows etc

money comes from ticket sales and streaming, you can earn some money from sound design

its better to develop your craft as a producer and become great at what you do, dont go out and meet promoters, a lot of them aren't in this for the music, work on your craft!

hmm..it is very hard to change the culture, but the best thing you can do is to develop your sound and make the best music possible

happens all the time man, go work on sound design or some mixing , watch some videos, etc

armin says that its time to get out of the studio when no ideas are coming and you cant fight it, go play playstation and make a sandwich and then come back

sometimes its about making something you want to make, not cause of other people's tracks

Sound Design / Re: Sound Design In Trance/Psy Trance
« on: June 04, 2016, 02:37:58 am »
maybe go look for a techy psy-trance preset pack from your synth and look at how the sounds are crafted

in massive a basic acid sound starts with an acid or square wavetable and then through an acid filter, etc

you need to use your ears, if you listen closely, they are just played off the one note
they are saw waves, sine and some noise probably -2/-24 octave, there is sidechaining to get that pumping effect

depends if you want all of their products, maybe do a bit of research first and find out what you need, cause it will take a long time to learn the software if you are getting it all

Im a fan of Native instruments, they have a product for nearly everything related to production

Im happy with my go to synth massive and Kontakt for strings and piano, those two are essential to me lol

Sound Design / Re: How do I make these Big Room stabs?
« on: June 01, 2016, 12:30:00 am »
its down to the sound design technique of the producer, you cant always get sound 100% close to it, but you can get close

if you look at the MainStage stuff, W&W use a lot of sylenth and massive, to get their dutch sounds
remmeber sylenth is a dutch analogue synth and massive is Wavetable

its best you study synthesis and sound design, so you can train your ears when you hear a sound, you know the workings of it and can replicate it in a way, the horn was from sylenth and saw from massive
