I've really been wanting to get into this kind of sound design! Any pointers to achieve this kind of sound? :)

either you have your bass come through, or your kick. You can't necessarily have both. Once you make that decision as to what will drive your track more to your ears, your low end will clear up more.

There's a 3 part series of steve duda talking about a lot of things, including his approach to his mix down. This series should help you out with what you're wondering about, as well as many other things. If you have the time check these videos out. They helped me out a lot

A lot of what he's talking about is you have to "play the space." Mixing shouldn't be looked at as making something loud, but creating space for that element to come through.

If you haven't heard of him or listened to anything by him, I highly suggest you listen now.

ATTLAS, signed by mau5trap.

I recommend listening to his Siren EP

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: good laptops for producing under 1k?

For me I needed a good CPU > i7
I needed a lot of ram so I got 16 GB
and then I knew i would need a lot of space for all the samples I wanted, etc, so I got a 1 TB hard drive.

All of which you can get in a gaming computer. Look into the ROG Asus 750JX on ebay. I grabbed mine for $700 and it's a beast.
A little bit heavy, but if you're not going to travel with it then it should be fine. Not a bad price considering the MSRP if you look it up is $1999

When that arp comes in, maybe cut off some of the low end on that pluck in the beginning!
Saws have very nice layering, love the vocal. I like your kick, but it's lacking in transient for me.
Be careful on your last build up, there was a lot of elements going on. I've read things where the untrained ear can only really hone on 3 different things going on, but you had a lot going on which is kind of just distracting.

Overall this is good, I really like it. Good job!

I feel as though those plucks in the beginning come in a little harsh.
That arp is familiar????
I would like to see more Stereo on the synth at 1:12 through out the song, it kind of all sits there otherwise and lacks moving. 2:15, 2:28, 2:50, pitch modulating up??? ;)

Really like the vibe you've got going here. That transition to the bridge could be brought out a bit more. Easily something you could kick back and listen to. Sounds like something someone could drop some lyrics over and then have a vocalist cut in on the lesser areas.

Suggestions / Multi-Quote
« on: August 13, 2016, 08:48:03 pm »
I'm not sure if I missed the option, but I took a look and could not find it.

Pretty self-explanatory suggestion from the title. I didn't notice there wasn't an option until I attempted to reply to multiple people in one post using a multi-quote feature.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Over complicating things
« on: August 13, 2016, 08:42:16 pm »
I used to. For the most part I very much believe most songs aren't winners. I can write an amazing chorus or melody, but that doesn't mean it's destined to be a full song. In the past I used to try writing songs from the intro through and it was a nightmare. For me there's absolutely no inspiration to be gained from starting with a beat. I realized it wasn't overcomplication I was feeling, it was genuinely a lack of direction because I literally had nothing to work from.
What did you do that helped you get past this lack of direction?
