Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Over complicating things
« on: August 13, 2016, 06:52:06 pm »
Do you guys sometimes find yourselves over complicating things when it comes to starting a new track?
I can't ever get past the introduction phase, and I feel like I may just be over complicating things.

it should help your ears understand what you're dealing with, but it won't necessarily help you UNDERSTAND the sound design.

You can twittle a knob and not know what's going on, just as much as being deliberate in twisting the same knob and know what's happening.

Quite honestly, the biggest thing you should study is recording history and techniques as a foundation for your electronic music production.

that will give you a solid ground to spring board with any synth or source you're using.

Synth design is cool and all that shit, but it's the processing that REALLY makes the sound shine.

some of that stuff doesn't really apply to mixing, but if you didn't have a recording, you wouldn't have a mix.

Do you have any good resources to read/watch oover recording history and techniques?

It sounds like you have two different sub bass's going that are clashing in the mix. Make sure you make enough room for just one or do a little EQing so they don't clash as much.
Very groovy though

Harmor is an additive, subtractive and resynthesis vst. You virtually could do just about anything with it. Just search on youtube

Create music that can make people feel happy, sad, angry, uplifted while making a living off it. I want to be the music for someone as it was for me growing up. Music's truly what helped me through the rough times. I only hope to be that for someone else.

The biggest challenge of learning how to produce I think is that once you've learned the basics it becomes very hard to find what you're looking for via tutorial videos.

I've found some of the EDMprod/Cymatics courses to be valuable.
the one's paid for or on youtube?

So I've found that sometimes I'm slumped midst working on a project and I've only learned so much. I feel like a lot of the times when I google something or youtube something it's the same watered down information.

Does anyone have any links or videos that they would like to share that helped further their overall workflow? I'm working on my first real project and I like how it's going, but the problem is some areas I feel like it's misssing something, I know WHAT it's missing, but every attempt I take at adding for instance a tom hit where it sounds like it should be placed from a musician's perspective, it just doesn't work.

That's just a small example of what I'm having issues with.. there's gotta be something I can read or watch out there to help me further my progress. Thanks in advance guys!

Sound Design / Tutorials

I'm looking on some good tutorials on getting my drums to come out a lot more in my mix. Whenever I drop a sample like a tom or anything like that, it just doesn't come out or just doesn't sound right. I know it's not my samples as I have some pretty good ones. It can't be sidechaining, because then it just sounds like I have a pumping track all over the place. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?
I'm using ableton.

PS I'm a percussionist so this is driving me bananas!

I was excited to see a new piece of work posted by you. That being said, I really like the intros vocals. At 0:25 there is a weird riser I hear? Not sure if it's some weird feedback but it's very faint and does not sit well at all. I had to go back and replay it couple of times cause I wasn't sure if that was just some outside noise I was hearing. I like your arpeggio you have going, what did you use to make that if you don't mind me asking?
At 1:50 there's another riser it sounds like that's maybe out of key? May need to be pitched up a little bit more, kind of sounds outside of the mix. It's kind of clashing with the reverb of the vocals, maybe just use some noise. That's just being extremely picky though. Great work!
