Finished Tracks / Re: Chillwave :: Creepa - Anata (SHIKIMO Remix)
« on: April 12, 2016, 12:35:56 am »
My entry in the remix contest for Creepa's track "Anata" put on by Zen Supremacy.

Any and all comments/criticisms are welcome and encouraged.

Hope you all enjoy <3

This is beautiful, I really love it!  The soundscape that you have created is incredible and it took me to another place!

It was difficult for me to come out with anything right off the bat for critique, so I put on some Mat Zo and used Time Dilation as a mix reference as I love how that overall mix sounds.  Please keep in mind that this is just a stylistic preference, though I'm curious what your remix would have sounded like with a more evident and harder hitting but quick and tighter kick with some quick, chest hitting subbass and a bit less boom.

This is also stylistic preference and I love how 3:05 and on sounds, though I would have preferred less sidechain (lfo?) ducking for a bit less of that pumping effect as it was a tiny bit distracting for me in this mix, but again that's just my personal taste and pretty subjective.

Excellent work, looking forward to hearing more of your songs in the future!

Mixing sounds pretty good, I would like the hat that's on 2 & 4 to be a little tighter though. The synth that follows the beginning is really nice, and well compressed and mixed.

Little too much reverb on the rolling snare during the buildup - it begins to drown out some of the other elements. I like the drop, but try putting some more attack on that bass.

LOVE the little flair at 1:29.

Pretty sweet track man, nice job!

Hey man, really appreciate all of this feedback, this is all extremely helpful dude!  Thanks for your kind words too, means a lot to hear that!

If you don't mind, would love to pick your brain a bit more on your tip to add more attack to the bass, that was by far the most challenging area for me in the song.  What do you think would be improved/fixed by lengthening the attack in the bass sound?  Would really love to understand this on a deeper level so that I know what to listen for as well.

Thanks man!

woops sorry,there you go  :)    https://soundcloud.com/cronix-dj/id-take-it

This is awesome, I really like your style!   This has a very bass house type groove to it that reminded me of Ephwurd/Hi-Lo/etc, so good job!

I think that figuring out how to make your percussion, specifically your hats more audible in the overall mix and focus more of the mix attention towards them should improve the groove even more and get it sounding even closer to those producers above (if that's what you're going for).  I would check your panning and stereo wideness on your hats, as it may help a lot if you can get them more off to the sides and away from the center part of the mix with all the sub bass and basslines.  Also, if you can make any EQ cuts in your bass synths/others to try and free up even more room for those hats to come through, that will likely help too.  Please keep in mind that I am still learning this genre myself as well and I'm no expert, but I think this should help you :)

If you would like to give a listen, would love to hear your thoughts on my new track below, which is also bass house :)

Would love to hear your feedback on my first bass house track :)

This was a really cool track, I liked it!  As a basshead I am really digging your monster sub bass lines, good work!

I think that this track could benefit from some some additional groove, specifically by adding some more drums such as hi-hats or other percussion sounds in there to create some additional movement.

If you haven't heard of his music before, Snails has quite a lot of groove and drums going on in his tracks, which may be helpful for a reference.  You may be going for a different sound/style than that, though still hope it helps.

Looking forward to hearing more of your work in the future!

I'm about to post one of my own songs for feedback, would really love to get some from a fellow basshead if you are interested!

Good tune. Have drive there. All sounds are clear. Massive bass line.  8)
In my opinion track needs some expansion and more rich arrangement but it's just my taste. don't worry about this :) ;)

Hey man, thanks so much for your kind words!

Would love to picky our brain a bit more on your feedback if you don't mind, any bit of feedback that I get from listeners is very valuable to me :)

Could you post a song up that you feel has an arrangement more of your taste?  I would love to check it out :)

Thanks dude!

Lovely house song, the second drop with half tempo is really sweet, just got the feeling it's kind of empty there and there, which makes it quite repetitive for me. But you made really good work!

Thanks so much for the kind words Hirtone, makes me so happy to hear that you enjoyed it!

Really appreciate your critique as well, that is very good to know.  On filling out more, do you have any methods that you like to use for your own music?  Would love to learn if you are willing to share :)

Hey man, this sounds really, really good, I love it!  Your mixing and layering sounds very clean, and I think you did a wonderful job on the highs, they sound really nice and euphoric through my studio monitors :)

For feedback purposes, you may want to play around with the gain on your vocals around 0:18 until the drop around 1:05, as it sounds a little loud to me compared with the rest of the layers, and sticks out a bit.  It sounds like it sits a lot nicer after the drop once you have more elements in there.

I hope this helps, and please keep in mind this is just from my perspective, and I really do love this song! :)

I would love to hear some of your feedback if you would like to give my track a listen :)

I'm feelin this one. It's got that mainroom vibe but with some freshness to it which is great. The drop is dope I love the acid style bass. I think it would be slightly more powerful with the sub tail of each kick sustained for a little more. It would help kind of suck that bass back in and out and provide a deeper foundation for the track overall. Otherwise claps and percussion sound good and your use of the stereo field is pretty clean to me.

So glad you like it man!  Serum was extremely fun to use for the drop on this one :)

Thanks so much for the feedback, that's very helpful and happens to be the one area that I spent a massive amount of time on trying to get right.  I used LFO tool on my kicks to better blend with the sub bass layer, and at one point did have LFO tool set for a longer sub tail on the kicks, but kept running into an issue where I heard a double bass hit when combined with the sub bass line, even with side-chaining.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this if you have any ideas on how to approach this, thanks!

Also, happy to give you a listen or feedback on any of your tracks if you need :)

Hey man, love this track!! Love the arrangement, the part in 2:20 to me feels like it needs a little more percussion, but thats just me, the build up is beautiful! How long have you been producing??

Thanks so much for the kind words, so glad you enjoy it!

Really appreciate the feedback on the percussions as well man, will keep that in mind for the next one.

I've been producing for around 4 years on and off, started practicing daily and treating it like more than a hobby about 8 months ago :)

If you have any music that you would like a listen on or feedback please let me know dude!

Hey Danz, this is awesome!   You may think that you aren't good at making intros, but I gotta tell you man, you hooked me in from the first second based on how much I enjoyed the intro!  I think you are awesome at them judging from this in my opinion, keep it up!

The song in general was great from my end, I enjoyed the arrangement that you put together so far, it kept me interested the entire time.

I know that you are still putting together the mix and arrangement, so don't want to go too deep into that as you may still need to do a lot of that work.  One thing I noticed is around 1:15 - 1:19, it sounds very filled out here frequency wise, but something seems to drop off after from 1:20 - 1:29 which is making it sound like you have some frequency gaps or something missing here element wise that wasn't before.  Hope that makes sense man!

Looking forward to the finished version of this, this sounds huge so far, great job!

Would absolutely love to hear your feedback on my track if you would like to listen :)

This is a great song, I really love it! The song itself sound wonderful, and the vocals completely complement it, all in all great job!

One thing you may want to consider for other songs is changing the level of your bass/sub-bass frequencies throughout the song so that some parts will have the full, heavy bass, and others just a tiny bit, if any.  This will should create more impact and emotion, as well as adding some additional variety.

This is just my opinion and personal preference, but I hope it helps!

I would love to hear some of your feedback if you would like to give my track a listen :)

WIPs / Re: Flute trap
« on: January 26, 2016, 11:51:24 pm »
Hey Hirtone,

This is a cool idea, I like it!  As said above, the drop is very nice, I really enjoy it.    The part that came after as well sounded great and kept the vibe going for me.  At around 1:46, flute part came in again and I started to lose the vibe a little bit.

I really think you nailed the drop, the sound and the way everything blends together sounds really nice, and I love the unique vibe that you created.

I wasn't a huge fan of the higher pitched synth which I think is what you were concerned about as well, as it stuck out in the mix to me above all of the other elements.  In addition, you may want to double check all of your chords and notes to make sure everything is staying in scale, as that may be playing a part as well.

Rather than trying to tweak this and spending a lot of time on making it work, you may be better off trying a new idea or a few new ideas and seeing which ones complement the rest of the song.  That drop is seriously awesome and I think the song would really benefit if you structured the entire song and vibe around it.

Anyway, this is all my opinion and at the end of the day you should absolutely use your own creative discretion to make final decisions, but I hope this will help :)

Keep it up! Looking forward to hearing more of your tunes

Would love to hear some of your feedback if you want to give my track a listen :)
