WIPs / Re: Friend mistook this for a flume track..

cant say I hate anything about it but the part that starts at 1:31 doesn't groove as well as the rest of the track imo, the side chain seems to be getting in the way of the groove just a little bit. other than that I really love the vibes you have going on here, very cool stuff! :) It's easy to see why your friend mistook this for a flume track

so I've been trying to figure out how madeon dj's in ableton for a while now. In particular how he switches tracks and also generally how everything's routed in his als. I've been trying to pull this thing off for quite a long time and after months of hair pulling and clunky unreliable live sets I have almost given up of making a template of my own. Before I completely give up and resort to shifting to traktor I'm really hoping there's still a chance this gets cracked somehow. There's no place online in my knowledge that completely explains this so I was hoping you guys here could help put two and two together here.

This is the only video I found where you can sort of see his laptop if that helps:

Same as my mate, nice track but too much noise ! Really good job anyway ;)

thanks alot man! :) yes, played this out loud the other day and pretty sure my ears bled a little on the drop lol

ajh00, thanks yo!   :)

hi!

I wouldn't say there is that much wrong with this, it is fairly coherent and stays pretty interesting throughout  :)

I would say that the white noise at the drops could do with a little turning down or filtering, as it stands out quite sharply, taking over the mix instead of just filling it out.

i'll add anything else I can think of later!

The white noise being too loud is definitely the biggest issue with the track. Glad to hear you think it's interesting man, thanks!! :)

I love the chords you've got going on there. I'd suggest adding more spatial effects on some of the sounds in your build to add to the depth and space of the mix. Not exactly sure about the drop lead though, great tune though!

I really like the use of Divinity's vocal chops during the break of your tribute. The whole atmosphere you create using the elements from the album is phenomenal. The chords you wrote before the climax of the track are super fitting! If it were me, I would have had a much tighter sidechain on the basses during the climax of your track. Maybe a little but of a boost around 2kHz as well to brighten things up. But overall, this is an AMAZING tribute to an amazing album!

I will most definitely be putting this on my playlist!!

PaulGreen thankyou so much for the feedback dude!! Im really glad to hear you like it :)

noted, I'll try swapping out the bass for something less "in your face" and see if it fits better. thanks MOTY!!  :D

Before I put this out there I really wanted some feedback on the arrangement of the track and know if you think it gets too monotonous at any point. If it does what would you suggest I do? I've heard it way too many times to know any better so figured might get some help on this. Any tips and overall feedback would be reallllly appreciated  :)

getting emotional over here.. I had produced for about a year or two before listening to worlds, but when I listened to worlds and saw his live performances I sat myself down and made it my goal to produce to make music and get big so that I could see porter one day/collab with him. It's a little farfetched, and my goals are different now. but your song has a little bit of what I first felt for worlds :)

wow. Kinda have a similar story here. worlds is one of the very very few albums that shaped my perspective on music enough to want to venture into this unexplored territory for me at the time. On top of that, the live show absolutely blew my mind and I knew this is the direction I'd like to somehow take one day. I realized there probably wont be another album like worlds out for a while so wrote this as a sort of farewell from my end. Knowing what it meant to you and how this brings about a similar feeling completely made my day! I'm really glad to hear that, thanks a million for the kind words  :)
