No I don't mean it as an insult man, honest lol
That growl is amazing, I mean listen to Seven Lions remix of Above & Beyond You got to go & you'll find that sound in there too.
Mind explaining to me what synth you made it on? I know it doesn't matter what synth you make it on, I'm just interested
But yeah the Seven Lions is real in your track lol

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Effectively using samples

The cool thing about audio is that you can manipulate it in ways that would be really hard for a plug in to do efficiently(please correct me if i am wrong). I know there's some glitch plug ins, but eventually it would be best to bounce those suckers to audio so you can break them even more.

It really depends on whats in your tool box, and how you use those tools for the required sample.

Like, you can literally do any thing you want to the audio stem. If it sounds good or not, it doesn't matter.

Most of the time when i start mangling my samples, they end up as sound effects. As by that time i've already been done thinking about the musical context and i start thinking "ok, how can i get silly with this but still be tasteful and creative?".

But you can do as much or as little with the audio stems you create inside of your daw. It's just an understanding of your tool box, tools in the box, and how to use the tools.

Okay, so I want to get more creative with my audio samples & from what I'm reading, I lack the tools, since my only tools as of now are just splicing and hoping I get something cool, so what I'm trying to do is get my audio splices to have effects like, Andrew Bayer, Skrillex, Flume etc. sorry I don't mean to sound cliche but that's the only way I can describe the sound I'd like to get lol I'd also like to learn to splice better so I can have another sound to carry along the song to to have a solo with you know?

Hold up at the 2:06 mark how did you make that almost talking sound? It's not bad but not good either it's interesting but if you worked on it more it can be better almost has the seven lions feel to it. Always take pride in what you create, no matter hood good or bad it sounds

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Chord & Structure of Future Bass
« on: February 10, 2016, 11:40:15 pm »
So as I'm attempting to make a Future Bass track, I was wondering if the Chords follow a certain structure, the kicks, high-hats as well are they in eight notes? 16th's? Are the chords in 7nth's? Are compound intervals chords to much? Is bpm in 155? I've seen some in 110 others in 130 bpm? Any advice would be appreciated.

I use Logic X but as far as transferring to Ableton I know what everything does do I know how to use it effectively? no I've only ever used it 10 times max tho, I don't know short cuts (hot keys) whatever you want to call them, anyways you can do many things with him

1.) Teach him & guide him

2.) Break the news to him that it's not so easy as it sounds to produce & that there are a lot more variables involved that just pressing record or putting midi info such as
Example: learning basic music theory understanding frequency in relation to notes key etc, (I'm still learning so I would say I have an idea) lol

3.) Let him teach himself, like many others such as myself and others. You'd probably be helping him, maybe, maybe not, because this will determine if he has the patience, the tenacity to go and do this, he would have to learn to enjoy the process if you let him fly solo & if he can't learn to enjoy the process & have fun with it well, let him figure out the rest

Just don't kill him, he has a dream I would assume like I & many others, if he's a douche let him learn if you want, if he's cool and walks up to you for advice or you approach him willingly, be sure to know you're in for future advice or you can redirect him here to avoid that anyways man, yeah the ball is in your court.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Struggling With Sound Design
« on: February 09, 2016, 04:48:12 pm »
Idk why but using presets bothers me when I go hunting for a new sound. It feels like if I get a sound from it, it's because of someone else hard work thus, I feel like I never did anything, but I'll experiment more on working with presets for now & go for my own original sound

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Effectively using samples
« on: February 09, 2016, 04:43:47 pm »
When people use samples I hear amazing FX or a completely different sound when they use them. So my question is when people use samples do they just cut and rearrange, reverse the sound or add other plugins I'm not aware of in the process? I'm not very effective in using samples but, I'm practicing on trying to make them more interesting instead of just using an entire samples with no interesting twist what so ever. I usually attempt this by getting remix stems and working with those

Lack of experimentation I'd say. You need to learn what every single knob does and then experiment with them fo so long, that you'll find out how their effects feel. ...then you'll slowly be able to get the designed sound closer to the one in your head.

"Earth is round right? Look at it from right angle and you'll be always on top of the world."

This is the most inspirational thing I've heard, thank you. I will experiment more as well thanks

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Struggling With Sound Design
« on: February 09, 2016, 01:31:43 am »
Okay, so I was wondering if I could get some pointers on how to be more efficient on sound design because whenever I come up with my melody & chords and move on to sound design, I can never get or settle for a sound I like. Is it because of lack experience? (been producing for about 2 years & a half years) is it my song writing? Is it me? My lack of experience? Lack of creativity? I can hear the sound I want in my head but can't come to produce the sound irl idk what it is. So I was wondering If can get advice, I want to create more future bass, D&B mixed with the dubstep style with the modern anjunabeats style sound.

So I listen to this track everyday & I'm just blown away by how beautifully the plucks sound, so blown away, that I feel like I they're tangible and I can touch them, I can literally create an image of what this sound might look like if it were real and tangible so I was wondering how would I go about on creating plucks like the ones after Zoe johnston she says "Keep on little dreamer" and then the chords like the ones after she says "Dream on little dreamer"

I went to Guitar Center & tried some out. While they're not 8's They're Yamahas HS7's & I thought they were amazing. Tbh I don't want to cut corners like you said, I'd rather pay good money than have pair that are of no use to me & be dissatisfied with them

I tend to create chords & melodies then after I make a sound I THOUGHT I liked then, I end up changing it drastically, so like I'd try to go D&B then I go to chill out. I jump ship easily

I'd have samples in a certain order to help improve the track, like they'd provide a second sound apart from just being just a vocal if you know what I mean. Sorry it's hard to explain what I mean if you're confused, anyways then I'd move the sample but a certain sound wouldn't sound the same because the punch was provided by the sample I moved. So It would be moving samples late the process

Changing the style of the song.

making a different track within the track I'm working on lol

I tend to focus way to much on one sound and forget about creating harmonies with the rest of the track, by that I mean I create a certain sound to be the most important part, so like I put a lot of pressure on one sound to carry the entire song

I mix while I work

I get scared & compare my music to more experienced producer while I try to listen for inspiration. Examples: guys like WRLD, Above & Beyond Seven Lions etc lol

Thanks for the advice, see I see people use KRK's a lot or some other monitors, I just don't know the logistics on monitors this is is really narrowing a lot of monitors down. anything i should listen to specifically when I buy monitors?
