Oh okay, 'cause I was looking at the Yamaha 8's I think for now there like 50 bucks extra but I'm in a fairly small room so I think they would just bombard me with sound plus they're a bit tad big but the 7s id say a pretty nice tho when I heard them, maybe it was me but they seem to of lacked some low's to me I have a subwoofer, a sony one, idk how much difference that would make tho? tho your advice on the 8's is really intriguing and as far a Adam monitors which series are would you refer to?

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Advice on choosing some monitors
« on: February 18, 2016, 01:02:35 am »
So as far as choosing monitors I'm not to familiar on what I should be looking for, I'm looking something that has a good mids & lows, right now I'm working with a sound bar that has pretty good quality but, I feel like they're over exaggerated in sound & also really are meant for tv but, more importantly they're commercial listening speakers, as far as price range I'd pay $300 max for a single monitor since I'd be buying them apart so a total of like $600. I was referred to buy some Yamaha HS7 Monitors I liked them but, I'm looking at Behringer NEKKST K8 Audiophile Bi-Amped 8 Studio Monitors & not sure what to think, I'd like to have the flattest response but then again my hearing could be vey different so, I'm just trying to choose the best monitors for my money, I don't want to be cheap & regret the purchase for cheap monitors. If you have any other monitors, I appreciate the help & reference to know what I'm looking for, also thanks in advance!

Sound Design / Re: How did you learn sound design?
« on: February 17, 2016, 07:44:50 am »
As far as sound design. I'd say learn some synth 101 like the guy I just quoted, it will help you a lot, while you may or may not know what ADSR means or do, knowing how to properly use them with envelopes will help you create the sound on purpose rather than on accident, it's good to experiment but if you don't know what your twisting & turning it may be more difficult to make the sound or even a sound that you want & I say this 'cause everybody different, to me it all comes full circle. This is my Analogy and does not apply to anyone since everyone has there own way of going about producing music) so this might connect with you or not but here's what I think. Analogy: If you want to create a beautiful garden first you need seeds (learn theory not just music theory) then you need water (an intro to Synth 101 kinda thing) then you learn over time how to make the sound you want, also patience...lots of patience then if you stuck through it, admire your garden (your music or whatever your end goal is).

I tweeted at San Holo once asking him how he got into sound design and he sent me a link to this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atvtBE6t48M

It's pretty basic stuff, but practicing the core stuff is essential.

I spent 3 hours of my life watching these videos...It was amazing help and I have a better understanding on how to make my own sound a bit more! Also I got a bit less fearless and more confident strangely 0_o thanks for the post!

Sound Design / Re: Side-chaining Volume question

No, I'm just using in program plugs-ins, so Logics X's, but I'm not really trying to create a track, I'm just playing around to make my own sound so all my kicks are the basic 4/4. My release is short by the way but when the kicks stops it still boost an absurd amount and I'm trying to find a way for it to not spike in volume should I just play around with the volume parameters & match the volume so the volume seems in synch?

Sound Design / Side-chaining Volume question
« on: February 16, 2016, 07:05:21 am »
So When I side-chain a pad to create a pumping like effect to make a Future Bass style pad, after I wanted to bridge the segment from hard hitting Future bass pad into a soft melodic segment/bar whatever you want to call if, I try to take away the side chain but then it just gets either way to loud or what to soft so I have to adjust the volume but by doing so it creates a huge disconnect with mixing the volume and it created a very loud pad because of the side-chain that was o "ON" so I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong, is there another way to do this side change pump effect? (By the way the pad is side chained to a kick so when the kick stops the side-chain stops then the problems surfaces) I use logic X btw if it matters. I know this is a very VERY basic question but yeah

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Producing through School or Bedroom?
« on: February 14, 2016, 08:33:55 pm »
How would you say you been more inspired to do this?

Do you think it'd be better if you'd gone to a university or are going to one?

Do you think you'd have or have the same opportunity to learn as much as the one in school or viceversa or maybe even more as a bedroom producer?

Which do you think is better?

Okay, I realize that there are a lot of wrong things with the question I posted so, to better describe what I'm talking about, this video explains it

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Circle Of Fifths
« on: February 13, 2016, 09:10:30 pm »
Okay so question
1.) Do you use the circle of fifths trick where you choose your key you want to be in, be it Minor or Major build chords off of that then use the trick where you got to your . fourth, fifth and build off of those? As for minors, refer from time to time to the circle (whatever key you're in) and look at the minors?

Question 2. Say I'm in the key of AM and my last chords root was E, can I go down to BM or Cb? Then also can go from AM to Em to G#/Ab (member my root key for the song is AM) is it unwise to stray to far from the Main Root key? I'll try to explain more if I'm confusing you guys. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Hey man, I'm not trying to put you down, I'm just trying to help you realize that none of this will come easy. I work a minimum wage job to pay my bills and soon want to get another job but I'm doing the second job for my music, I'm prepared to sleep 2, 3 hours a night to help pay for my music, equipment, I'm going to libraries, buying books to learn etc.

Listen man, the knowledge you've attained sounds like you haven't been using to it's full extent, sounds like you're afraid to fail, but you can't be, you have to come into this being prepared to fail and NOT be afraid to fail.
Experiment more, even if it sounds like shit push through it man, finish it, and go back & see what you could of done better & fix it, while reviewing your work you'll realize so much more you could of done & then you will go back to it and add more you'll get inspired, thus you will improve more & more
Learning is one thing but producing is a totally different beast man. That's why this forum is here to help people like you & I achieve our dreams, some people cared enough to create this for us and many other forums, so lets put in the work, & also search on our own

"You got to keep your ideals high, you got to know, that the sky belongs to no one" amazing verse from Above & Beyond that I believe fits here perfectly.

Exactly, what do you as of right now, this moment of your life you hobby/career do feel like you've "mastered" because
1.)you never really master anything in art there is always much more to learn (don't mean this in a bad way, trying to motivate you)

How much work have you put in theory & fundamentals?
Look back at your work, listen to it, song structure wise harmony wise, melody wise. Do you think you put in 100%? Ddid you rush your tracks just to finish them?
A lot of projects, I've read from guys like madeon and stuff say they work on 1 track example Technicolor I'll post the link at the bottom tho I'm sure you've already heard it took him 7 months I believe he said. He would be on and off it changed various times

GQ interview
Madeon quote follows
Quote
I've been in the studio for three months and written a bunch of songs and thought, "You know what? Not good enough." I thought I'd take three months off from touring - which is a big deal as touring is profitable - but I need some level of productivity. So I went to the studio to create. But I wasn't [thinking], "I need five new singles for the next 12 months." It was rather, "Let's study movie scores. Let's see what that is about." I'm glad I have this knowledge as now I have something else I can do. You can either cultivate spontaneity or you can be exhaustive in your knowledge and capacity. I'm more towards the latter. You know, my music sounds happy, but it's a painful process and I take it quite seriously. I do realise that if I keep on with this attitude forever - of scrapping songs and taking six months to finish a record - I'll pretty much have an album in 2035.

Here's a thread started by madeon showing off his struggle & tips

https://www.reddit.com/r/edmproduction/comments/186kli/im_madeon_lets_talk_production/

You're thinking of this (the whole music thing as money) it shouldn't be about money while everyone here wants that, priority number one should be about what it started with Music and should in with music

There's a quote in Kill The Noises song, I'll link the bottom with the song the quote is in the song & hope it makes you not give up I'll quote it as well

"You got to reevaluate you perspective & you priorities, because, you started doing this because it was fucking fun, it has to be fun, otherwise, you're just torturing yourself you know, you're just stuck inside you own fucking head"

https://soundcloud.com/killthenoise/all-in-my-head-feat-awolnation

I find inspiration in music, anime, other peoples work, score, films
Music isn't just about understanding music in an album or ep, it's about understanding sound not just in music, but in film, IRL event's, film piece together how a song in a film or in my case anime makes you come to tears. Evaluate it as sound, a person or being that provides support in an intangible way it moves everyone because someone took the time & learn to struggle to provide that feeling in you.

But as a guy who started in high school now been producing for 2 and a half years, 20, still a lot to learn, I have dropped out of college for this so I can somewhat understand what you're going through but i'm having fun with this, I love this in the end, I'd rather die doing what I love than living & working in a office. The world needs more creative people and less men with black and white shirts and black neck chokers around their necks who kill imagination. That's all I can say, hope it helped

Btw this was madeon now he was 10 I think, but still it took I'm 10 years to get where he is now. link in the bottom

I tried imitating the noise but all I got was the panning & the growl, that's about it. Can you show a screen shot?
