Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Writing Music

I've only been playing for about 1 year & 6 month so I'm still a very big novice but I have taken some classes for piano in college tho I never really felt like I grasped it, especially not in 3 months, As far as harmony you can also say I have minimal understanding like I know what a primary, diminished, augmented is compound intervals, major minor 1, 2, 3, 4 etc like I understand them but how to use them properly or mix them I don't so I don't understand them I guess would be the ending answers if I can't use them in a proper way & yeah I do hope they fit sometimes but then I kinda hear the sound in my head you know. Would you have any tips or recommend anything?

"Could you give us an Mp3? I write all my music on piano and I've never had any problems getting chords to sound just as eloquent with electronic instruments."

Here the mp3 I deleted a lot and wrote another quick one up and this is what I got, ps it has the piano and a little sample with kicks in there 'cause I deleted the rest but at first I was aiming for something in the realms of Zedd's Canyman piano chords then I guess I would have the transition into electronic music come in or as some would say "the drop" sorry if I said that didn't mean to offend or Illenium's style song or also WRLD Champions song since he mixed the piano and what seems transitioned it nicely to a chord synth

Would you have any websites or books you know I can read to understand and progress more in my music?

So would you say my problems is writing which leads to a bad sound? 'cause I see some people write then transfer and it sounds great but I just can't seem to do it for example I'll post the link to guy who writes and transfers to what seems to me very easy

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Writing Music

So first I'd like to apologize if this is on the wrong thread but I think it on the right one anyways I've been trying to produce a track I'm actually happy with for the past 2 weeks and over & over I write something & I don't like it because when I transfers my Chords or melody to say a synth say Serum or Massive, or Spire they don't sound as eloquent or as nice as they do on piano, now I know that the piano is a completely different thing with harmonics going here & there but it's like I would be designing the sound because I don't like using presets because I don't feel it to be me who did the hard work so then I make my own sound but when I do the sound either because abysmal or not good enough...Am I focusing too much on writing a good song that actually designing? Do I lack knowledge in harmonics? Should I spend not 80 percent of my time on writing? Instead put it in like kicks snares, mixing & sound design? Am I wrong to believe than in order for a good song to be good & a good sound to be produced it has to have a amazing or good music writing? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. :) :/ :(

Sound Design / Madeon Beings Intro sounds
« on: April 06, 2016, 12:51:24 am »
So I was wondering without getting on anyones nerves & I know you have to experiment but I was wondering how to make that intro for Madeon's "Beings" song like the intro that has the piccolo or flute or recorder what ever it is sound going on also how to get a very clean, well rounded crispy guitar bass I've been meddling around with guitar rig from massive but I can't find the sweet spot, I don't want to steal his work or copy & paste it more just to figure out how he created it and build my own version or create something totally different, also it has some filter I think, with a film tape sample on top of the intro chords feel kinda Chinese or japanese feel to it

I'll post the song with link at bottom just incase some people haven't heard it thanks in advance.

The intro with piccolo or something is the first 0:10

Then the guitar light plucky kinda bass starts after the 0:10 mark

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Online Courses?
« on: March 16, 2016, 03:57:01 am »
Okay PLEASE DON'T REPORT THIS, THIS ISN'T SPAM THIS IS A REAL question, so I was looking into creating more creative beautiful melodies and saw a guy online I link below creating beautiful chords & progression along with melodies and he also offers like some classes don't know if runs it or it's part of something bigger but I was wondering if paying for these kinds of things is worth it it? I want to learn to compose better to improve my quality in music and I'm sure you already know how the story goes from here...I want to later put out my music etc.. so can you check them out & see or give your personal opinions? Thanks!

I like how everyone got their names, it's quite interesting on how you all found inspiration for it in many personal, cultural & other places I got my name, formally known as KAB I now I changed my name to something I think fits more my personality Zundara to me it sounds very chill filled with emotions organic like Odesza's Track "Bloom" which inspired me along with "Sundara" their other track from In Return Album =) Tho I haven't put out anything out in Zundara, YET..

WIPs / Any ideas on how I can progress this track?
« on: March 04, 2016, 03:37:12 am »

Can anyone one of you guys give me ideas on how to progress the track & also faults in it? I'm aiming for an Odesza/future bass/Downtemp/Electro Mord fustang chords heavy style I'm not looking to make an obnoxious loud sound or song I kinda am aiming for the Odesza Bloom song style but my own way/style right now to me it's way to boring especially the intro I'm not impressed at all with myself. I want to do more with the vocals like in Odesza's Bloom but I don't know where to go with it, I feel like I have to work with an 808 style bass then focus on the chords then focus on making the vocals trippy will come along, any advice? I kinda know where I want to go but then I don't...any advice would help like, adding chords, melodies, baseline anything, thanks everyone.

Can't get the link to work so I'll just paste the url sorry =((

Okay, so I've been think a lot about this & the Hs8's are in my high to get list tho I'm taking all the monitors that you guys are referencing into high consideration, but I think I might even raise my budget to like 450 maybe, so a total of 900 maybe tho, I'm not sure yet

Yeah I got a EQ sorta app for my phone so I'll take a variety of music & give them all a listen and Eq them Bass, low, Mid's, Upper, & highs

Yeah, that's what I was thinking buying used is pretty risky so I thought I might have to buy them new, also I considered that as well about my living situation too, I now think heck, might as well spend 50 extra bucks for the 8's

I might be wrong but, what I'm reading is that i's basically time stretching with no change in pitch...tho I don't know how Maor mixed a vocal almost into a build like lead in of itself

Here's the link to what I found what granulation might be

http://www.sfu.ca/~truax/gsample.html

Here Maor Levi showing Granulization

https://www.facebook.com/MaorLeviOfficial/videos

I can't get the direct link but their titled on his videos so I hope you can find granulization & see what I mean btw it's super cool

This is how they're titled

"This is too much fun"

"Granulizing is the future"

I recently saw Maor Levi post something about it but I didn't know what it was he something about putting it on vocals? What I heard was really sweet & also he used it on FL so I was wondering if it was only for FL?
