"Madeon - making other producers jealous since 2010" :D He really is like this little EDM Mozart. I'm always amazed by those live perfomances he does. I tried to figure out how he's setting up his Ableton sets and failed miserably. :D He has several ways of playing out that he seamlesly switches between during those sets. When he goes to that "sample trigger" mode, he remembers the whole layout and palys it like a f***ing piano. All kudos to that guy. Big repsect.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: How do you use pre & post fader settings?
« on: March 04, 2016, 06:52:18 am »
For the case of needing something audible more from reverb than from the dry signal I mixed some stuff with pre-fader option and it was a nightmare. You essentially had to do a whole new mix for that reverb return. Any mix change had to be done twice.

So I returned back to post-fader method. I gain the reverb signal by 5 or 10 dB, so I can drown stuff in it if needed. Also when having loooooooooong pads, I tend to use an insert reverb and not use return. That way tales are audible right away after I freeze the channel.

I've tried it. The idea is great. Dropbox for DAWs in a way. ...but it essentially tries to read files while you work on them. System doesn't like it sometimes, so uploads fail time to time.

I second this. This guy is totally insane. ...in a good way though.

I support this idea. It might have a set of sub-sub forums by type of the colaboration:

- Classic collabs
- Vocal collabs
- "Somebody finish this"
- Remixes

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Equalization Of Lead Layers

when i first began like years ago.. i used to stack supersaw after supersaw but this is the incorrect way to layer
Exactly.

Sound Design / Re: Sound degradation techniques

If you have A LOT of time, try Reaktor. Your possibilities of mangling your sound will depend solely on your imagination (and ability to transcribe that idea into a logic and some dsp modules :D).

Definitely ^ this!

...point is, that tweaking any glitching effect will take you actually more time than chopping the vocal and building the melody manually. And if you do it manually, you have also much more control over the actual result.

Dunno. I rarely layer stuff. ...but when I do, I treat each layer as a new instrument. I've never really understood why people beef up instruments in the same frequency ranges. Imho layers should complete each other by being as different as possible, not shout over themselves. I know bunch of guys will come in and say something about painting a new texture by combining two similar sounds and it's totally ok, but I tend to go the other way. :)

So essentially that's a Vengeance story all over again...
I get the importance, but it's getting kind of tiresome.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: EQ attached to notes?
« on: March 01, 2016, 10:44:49 pm »
i would avoid scooping out the fundamental frequencies of the sound you're using. That kinda of leads to a washed out, not really there, sound.
I quess that depends on what is the problem he's descrbing. I understood it as a sound with too strong fundamental. Slight keytracked highpassing can help this particular problem. If it's something else, then you're totally right.

Yeah. Don't glorify mastering. It's a finishing touch. Final polish. Essentially your mix should be enjoyable and cool sounding before mastering.

...that also means don't overdo it when mastering yourself. EQ, bit of stereo widening if needed, limiter. Done. (Just my opinion though.)

Multipass looks damn cool. Sad I don't have spare 230 euro atm. :-\
