Sound Design / Re: SERUM Tips & Tricks
« on: March 06, 2016, 05:48:26 pm »
Hello guys, I'm more looking for tip than offering one - do you have any tips on reducing CPU usage by Serum? Cymatics Future bass presets go apesh*t on my CPU, only simplest plucks are without cracking but even those starts to lagg when I play it with few other vsts. I have no problems with any other vsts, I can run maybe even 10 Massives at once and no problem but not a single Serum with these chord patches...
I have also kinda weird setup:
Windows 64bit running 32bit FL Studio with 32bit Serum
Would it be better to run it on 64 bit even though its 32bit DAW?

Sorry for confusing post, if it doesn't belong here, delete it

EQ - FL Studio's native Parametric EQ2
Reverb - native Fruity Reverb2/Waves RVerb
Sidechain - db Audioware Sidechain Compressor/Nicky Romero Kickstart
Compression - NI Supercharger GT/Waves SSL Compressor/Nightshine
Synth - Massive/Serum(although I don't use it every project, it completely eats my CPU :( )
DAW - FL Studio
+ extras
Filter - Sonalksis Creative Filter
Delay - Waves  H-Delay
Distortion - CamelPhat/Ohmicide/Fruity Waveshaper

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Guilty pleasures
« on: March 06, 2016, 02:49:19 pm »
My guilty pleasures:
Lady Gaga (I said in in the other thread already) - Fame/Fame Monster are absolute masterpieces, this is how should catchy pop music sound like (and yea, others make fun of me for listening to her :-\ )
Althought I hate almost everything about Taylor Swift, some of her singles from latest album are just irresistible - especially Shake it off
Also I'm definitely not Bieber's fan, I have to say that his collabs with Skrillex are good
Another guilty pleasures are songs around 2005 where these extremely cheesy records that sampled old classics hitted the charts - Eric Prydz's Call on me, Uniting Nations - Out of Touch etc. Kylie Minogue

How I see guilty pleasure songs: Catchy/sweet pop songs that everybody loves, but nobody wants to admit it

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Your inspiration for your name
« on: March 04, 2016, 08:19:54 pm »
I was having a big crisis with finding a name that wouldn't sound stupid, wasn't  already used, have some meaning in it and is "versatile" in terms of genres (You can't name yourself "Trap Jesus" or "Boomin' Thug" and then make Tropical house song), so it finally one day clicked during searching a random stuff on wikipedia: daimon = "1. A tutelary spirit that guides a person; a genius; a lar" I think it's unique enough, also It's not connected into some style or genre, so I can go House, Trap, Moombahton, Synthwave... I hope you guys won't steal it now  ;D ;D
I'm working on logo now, which has shape of diamond because it's pronounced the same except there isn no "d" at the end.

Well, then you probably don't know Savant  :D he releases around 3 albums per year with songs of various genres ranging from country to moombahton.. check out http://origin.vinter.us/ , this is one of the most creative and inspiring projects modern producer/dj can do. He is the real hero

I have heard of Savant, but I don't know his music at all.
Google that guy man :) he claims he made over 10 000 songs during his life :) I'm not sure about that number, but still probably the most in EDM :)

You're not alone! I'm also very weird in the range of my musical taste - I love and still listen to Lady Gaga's Fame Monster or Dr. Dre,  Eric Prydz, Stevie Wonder, Cassius, Wolfgang Gartner, Breakbot, Dubvisiom, Tears for Fears, Bee Gees... pretty weird combination :D

Production-wise, I'm inspired by Baauer, Diplo, Fred Falke, Robin Schulz, HeRobust, Pharrell Williams, DJ Shadow

Madeon, who has made 1000s of unreleased tracks, released a whole album and made hundreds of individual tracks/remixes is saying that he has over a hundred new tracks now and he feels like it's only the beginning? Scary, just scary.

. If I replace it with "some might say", will it make you feel any better? probably not

Definitely Yes! (funky, sneaky use of small fonts ;) )

It seems like it´s going to go badly for the guys at Cymatics.  It is sort of a sketchy area to call someone out on tho´.  Almost every major producer more or less encourages newbies to sample/borrow/steal drums.  I don´t think it´s OK for this douche to profit from it, but it´s a bit ironic none the less.  Hope they get burned nice and crispy.
You got it there corrected mate :)
Now back to talk... I'm not naive to think no other company steals from others (I think in one of the ADSR banks for massive I have they forgot to delete original info in the preset file, lol) but these guys are a bit different:
1) They have brilliant marketing - download gates, streams, massive spam, bonuses for early buys of new packs, also censorship
2) The price is insanely high, new pack costs even more than Vengeance, they argument the price by "recommendations of pro artists" (hahaha... ): SMLE(never heard of him): “This preset pack should not be out, its so good! Serum has never sounded so amazing!” or Cymatics: artists told us the price si too low, so we are raising it by 20$ (another great marketing tool)
Sad thing is, that some people fall into the craze and marketing campaign and buy that pack they can barely afford. In their fb group some guy admitted he is in debt now because he wanted the pack so bad and he doesn't even own/have money left for buyin Serum lol (half of the pack for 97$ is suddenly useless). It's his decision and all, still makes me feel a bit sorry for this guy... now I know I won't be spending on them a single penny.

I got some new screenshots from the guy, containing post with names of original samples and the ones included in Cymatics packs. Also with another "funny" reaction from Drew..

I too love both Wave Alchemy and Black Octopus!

That being said, I found the Cymatics stuff to be really killer.. some of the best samples out there really. It's such a shame that they operate this way. And hopefully they sort things out soon. Otherwise, I just don't see myself supporting them anymore, not that it would make a difference to them of course. And besides, there are other companies out there.
I really like some of the Sample Magic packs... their Synthwave pack is a pure gold! Also Capsun have some high-quality packs and Singomakers too, especially Main Room drums are great for some of that more mainstream house songs

So stating that MANY of the members here would be fine about other people´s work being stolen is not a generalization?  Good to know.  I´m surprised you want to be in a forum where so many are potential thieves or accomplices.

Omg... sorry that English isn't my native language, I didn't meant it the way you did.
It was a long post, I forgot to correct and read the end after I wrote it. If I replace it with "some might say", will it make you feel any better? probably not

I'm surprised how you came into this topic and joined "discussion" only to be mad about one word, which you twisted into me thinking this community is/will be stealing, you're absurd. Also, you didn't contribute to this thread in any way, the main topic of this thread wasn't about generalizing or judging the community, if you disagree, you completely missed the point. Just to make sure you understand, I was talking about controversy of selling sounds sampled from other records and way that this company responded. Have a nice day.

42
OK so they´re being d*cks to the artists, so their whole operation must be a scam, right?
Generalizing on past behavior.

I know that many of you will say "what the hell, their packs sound good, I will buy them" or "I don't care", but I think buying packs from them is like supporting stealing from good artists that doesn't get paid for their sounds.
Generalizing on the members of this forum because of what?  Check your attitude at the door.
Lol dude, you'd allow somebody to make (big) money by ripping samples from your tracks? I don't think so. I didn't say anything about "scam" - you recieve what you pay for, but unfortunately money don't go to original sound designers it seems, and their defense from these accusations in style of "I make biiig money you suck d*ck" doesn't add much to a credibility of origin of these presets/samples...
I don't know what you have with that "generalizing", I didn't generalize anything... this rant is 3 days old max, I found first negative comments on their page 2 months ago, of course deleted by Cymatics after an hour, so this thing is probably going on for a long time, maybe even since the start of the company, but that's just SPECULATION.
Also, I didn't write anything in terms of judging this community or I didn't came with any general conclusions about members of this forum, how would I? :D Read carefully, I only offered a point of view that somebody CAN give zero f*cks about a stealing of any kind and still buy their products... This all is just my opinion on them, I don't press you to think same about them.

Hello guys,
this thread isn't the best introduction for me to this community, but the past events finally made me create an account here, because I see that not many people are aware of this topic and I couldn't find anything on this subject on the internet.
So... I think many of you know a quite new company Cymatics selling sample packs and preset banks. Althought they are fresh in the sample pack market, they've gained massive popularity and growth of their fanbase is exponentially increasing. They are known for outstanding quality of their packs and for a price as high. Me myself I bought their Nightmares pack which is really good, but yesterday or so I read some discussion about their new pack called "Future Bass" and there was a talk about legitimity of Cymatics. I read about stealing samples and not paying sound designers and general as*holeness of the "co-founder" of company, Drew. The discussion was later deleted but I reached one of the guys from discussion and I wanted PROOF. He later sent me screenshots of what has been going on on Cymatics facebook, of course deleted after few hours.
What Cymatics did was sampling (ehm, stealing) elements from famous artists like MUST DIE! and then SELLING them in their overpriced packs without any credits to the original artists. Later some guys brought comparison of MUST DIE snare and Cymatics snare, and Cymatics Drew went rampage and lost control a bit... here are images he sent me:
https://goo.gl/photos/EsKnWYo6bmVY5ZNS7
Then Drew went into something like "you keep talking shit and have less than 200 followers on soundcloud / losers" following into everyone making fun of him and bringing more heat into the discussion: https://goo.gl/photos/8Qvue5uEN9QRuBLW9
I've lost so much respect for them after finding this out, but it is true that I had that gut feeling too - New company emerges from dark, during 6 months they get 30k likes on facebook, release 9 top-notch packs that more expensive than most of industrial standard ones (97$ for Future Bass pack makes it even more expensive than Vengeance) and massive marketing campaign... that stank a bit. I must admit though that they have very good marketing, though their social media pages are heavily censored. I tried on my own that even if I write on their facebook a bit negative comment about the price but in a very polite way and get "likes", they erase it as soon as they see it, no discussion or response from them.
Some of you might say "what the hell, their packs sound good, I will buy them" or "I don't care", but I think buying packs from them is like supporting stealing from good artists that doesn't get paid for their sounds.
Also, not everything they posted about stealing can be true, but at least that stolen snare example is 100% legit.
What do you think?
Also, if you have more proof on this matter I think you can contact guys from screenshots on Facebook and help them do something about it
