Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: How to deal with low confidnce?

You are sooo not alone on this one. A lot of us are all in the same boat. It's super easy to get down on yourself for not stacking up to the people that you look up to; especially when it's so blatantly obvious in an age of the internet where it's all about followers and plays and reposts and blah blah blah blah

the point is, it's all a matter of perspective. I try not to focus on the number of people listening to my stuff or supporting me, but I really find joy when I find the people who genuinely enjoyed my music (and sometimes that's only a handful of people), even though my self-critical nature is telling me that my mix is terrible, or my arranging skills are terrible. Ignore your instinct to tear your work down because of the technical nitty-gritty of it all, and try to realize that there are people out there that enjoy your art because it's a raw expression of who you are :) I know that's SUPER cheesy and kinda lame sounding, but it's really helped me in my production.

Also, for what it's worth, I really enjoy your music :)

Sound Design / Re: How To Trap (lol)
« on: February 11, 2016, 10:42:17 pm »
Thanks for the tips guys! I downloaded the Cymatics packs and the 808s sound good as far I can tell. What are the best Youtube tutorials out there you guys reckon? There's so many of them and I don't have enough trap-listening-experience to really tell a good kick from a worse kick haha.

i wouldn't get too worried about the initial sound of the kick, mainly just listen for what tone and style of kick really appeals to you! it is a bit subjective, but i tend to think that the most important part of the kick is that it meshes and compliments the other elements of your track. Granted, don't take that too literally, you should still get quality samples to start with, but don't lose sleep over finding the "perfect" sample before you even test it in your track with the other pieces :) hope that helps!

thank you so much! i know that the mix and master on castles in the heir isn't amazing, but I've definitely learned a lot since then! thanks for listening :) :)

hi everyone :) so i'm pretty new here, but i figured i would post this anyway, because i really value this communities opinion and feedback. i know this track is pretty niche, and certainly not for everyone, but i would be honored if anyone would take a listen anyway and offer up some feedback on what i can improve on in the future so i can continue to progress (:

thanks so much for checking it out!

Fun.

While producing is what most people hope to eventually turn into a full-fledged career, it's so so so important to remember that the reason that we make music (or really any art for that matter) is because we enjoy it! On top of that, typically your results will be much more rewarding if you are making your art in a way that pleases you. Find a way to make production fun, and you'll find that you will be much more inclined to keep pushing through the rough patches :)
