Mixing/Mastering / Re: Vocal Delay Effect
« on: June 29, 2016, 11:18:07 am »
Isn't this just a regular pingpong delay?

I like this delay because you have independent control over left and right channel:

I think this delay and a fair amount of reverb could create the effect.

I don't think I hear a reverse effect but there is a lot of reverb on the delay.

EDIT: Maybe this is done by two seperate delay units and one of them is pitched a bit higher.

Time to learn some music theory, I guess.

Maybe you should take a break indeed. If you really like porducing music, I will see that the attraction to finish the project will come back.

People may hate on Sausage Fattener, but I absolutely love it so that's my recommendation.

I think it's a great plugin but I miss the possibility to match the pre and post volume. Sausage Fattener is used to make things loud but you can't compare what the plugin does at the same volume.

Nevertheless, a great plugin.

Fabfilter's Saturn is fantastic for the creativity (everything can be coupled to an envelope follower or lfo) but it probably is over the top for simple saturation duties.

And panning.

You can do this manually or you can use a glitch plugin.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Setting Sub Levels

Comparing to other tracks is the key you are looking for. Use a low pass filter on commercial songs and copare them with your song with a low pass filter.

And compare with a frequency analyzer, but what you hear is more important.

Please read my previous post in this thread. I'm not saying you shouldn't cut frequencies, that's not the topic of this thread.

Ok, I'm sorry,my bad.

I don't get the logic. What difference does it make whether you're increasing or reducing volume?

If you have a muddy low end in a mix because the bassline and kick overlap in the same frequency spectrum, what do you do? Could out some frequencies or lower some frequencies to create room for each other, or add more volume to get more clutter?

it does bring things out of balance, because you're adding volume to a particular frequency bandwidth.

that's why it's better to start out with subtractive EQ than to just go for additive EQ.

Absolutely true!! I almost always use subtractive EQing.

I do the fader up thingy to get a rough idea of the mix.

Then I use the eq to get every sound clear, and then I do the fader up thingy again. I have the feeling indeed, that eqing can bring things out of balance a bit.

Thank you very much, cozmonavt!! Your comment makes my day!

Interesting track!! I hear some dubstep rhythms in the break to keep things interesting, the bassline is groovy as hell, reminding me of some oldskool speed garage.

Mix/mastering sounds ace!
