Use 4 busses (1 with short reverb, 1 with medium reverb, 1 with long reverb and 1 with delay) to create depth in your mixes.

Difficult to answer since we don't know about which DAW and plugins we are speaking of.

I guess the creators of these plugins/DAWs can give the right answers. All DAWs have forums with info about compatibility with win10.

Instead, I'll sometimes use Pro-L in series like my normal chain, but setting the first limiter up to act as a clipper which offers a lot more control without completely killing transients and keeps good dynamic range to the track.

Thanks for the tip!!

I never tried to copy others because I know it's too hard for me.

But I like to listen to others to get ideas for my own music, some rhythms, a melodic snippet, something like that.

There's a difference between copying and being inspired by... And I like the ' being inspired by' thingy.

Well, if an EQ doesn't work on the sound, maybe it's time to reach for a multiband compressor.

If a certain part of the bassline sounds too weak, you could bring back some life by 'bracketing' those freqencies with a multiband and compress it a bit to get it better into the mix.

I know Gclpi and it's great!

There's a huge difference in loudness between two 2 examples. I hear some vinyl noise, that could be mistaken for clipping artifacts, I think. :)

Hello,

When I play my latest track, which I mixed and mastered myself, Voxengo Span Plus indicates it has an RMS of -11.5 when the song has been playing from start to finish.

That's not extremely loud but I can't stand songs that are 'Death Magnetic'-loud anyway.

I managed to keep some dynamics; take a look at this picture:

The limiter which is of course the last plugin in my masterchain (Fabfilter Pro-L) only catches a few peaks, nothing more.

I'm pretty happy about the result.

You can listen and download the song here. Maybe someone wants to do some measuring on it.

But I'm not looking for feedback on the song itself, there's another forum's section for that.
I'm more into feedback about the mixing/mastering process. I'm interested in sharing techniques.

I didn't use a compressor on the whole mix or master, only on indiviudal instruments.

The trick I used is this: I used a clipper (LVC Audio's Clipshifter, but others will work fine too) and clipped 2-2.5 dB off of the peaks but I only mixed 40% of this sound into the mix, so 60% is dry sound.

I used U-he Satin (the BH Masterbuss Rhick and Warm for -15 dB RMS preset) before the clipper. And the Fabfilter Pro-L after the clipper. That are all dynamics plugins I used.

Do you think I'm onto something for future masterings without destroying all dynamics?

Do you have other tricks to keep dynamics and obtain a decent loudness?
Feel free to share.

Room acoustics are very important but I know it's not always possible to change the acoustics. I make my music in my living and I don't want to change my living room into a studio, so we're in the same boat.

Try to listen at very low volumes at some times (after having a break for your ears), especially while comparing to a reference song and use earphones too, while comparing to a reference song.

I once met a teacher while doing an audio course, who released his music on a pro label. He did his mixing and mastering on his kitchen table. No ideal situation but it didn't stop him to make pro music that got released on a pro label.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Vocal Delay Effect

What pingpong delay? Is there a high feedback? Does having a higher feedback cause the delay to repeat/last longer? Is the delay automated? Is there a gate on the delay? What kind of reverb/room?

I'm sorry but I don't know the answers to all the questions and I think it's strange to waste so much time on trying to recreate it while you can create something original, something new.

This stuff is compressed to death, I can't listen to this until the end of the song. And I'm used to listen to deathcore...

You could try creating your subbass with a sinewave and add a bit of distortion. Or a low passed saw wave with a little bit of distortion.

Reverb is a bit the opposite of clarity. If you use it, filter out the lows.

An octave would be way too much.

It's hard to hear, but maybe the sample is just two tones, then you don't need the pitching. I guess it's a very simple pingpong delay with lots of reverb.

I'm not familiar with H-delay.
