Finished Tracks / Re: Micimago - STAR (Original Mix)

Peaking @ 0 dBFS is normal, altough -0.1 or -0.3 would be better.

Here's a free plugin to measure the RMS. The numbers are in the left corner below.

http://www.voxengo.com/product/span/

It's best to make a 4 or 8-bar loop of the loudest part en measure that RMS. Clicking on the number resets them.

If you want to know the RMS of the whole song, reset the numbers and let it play from start to finish.

RMS is some kind of average loudness. You can compare it with other songs to get a hint on how loud you want to go.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing other people's tunes

I only mix and master my own tunes and the tunes of some clos friends.

It might be good idea to ask for a reference mix/master they really like. Talk about the loudness wars and what they expect about that.

Encourage them to be honest about your mixes and masterings, you can and will learn from them.

Nice filtered starting. Sounds good on my adioteknika heaphones.

The drop @ 1:15 is awesome, great bassline!

The final drop @ 3:15 is pretty strong, should be a dancefloor filler.

Maybe it's mastered a bit too loud for my old ears. What's the RMS?

Sicne you call yourself a noob and doesn't have much money, use the built in plugins in your daw.

If you have the feeling you master them, go check other stuff. Only then you will know what differences you are looking for.

I use Meldaproduction MStereoProcessor in very much the same way as most mention here above.

MStereoProcessor is completeley monocompatible, I really like that!

This is heavy influenced by industrial music and that sound nice. I also hear Gesaffelstein inspired stuff.

You had detail for use of reverb and there are little intricate things inside your music, it kept me attracted.

It sounded good on my headphones!

Hello Auvic,

I checked out your two songs you posted here and they sound great!

You'd never know has a lot of high frequency information on my headphones but Swing out... didn't have the ear fatigue.

Great stereospread, sounds pro!

Mixing/Mastering / Re: How to let your pads fit into the mix
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:32:21 pm »
Pads don't need much low frequency content. You can cut out lots of it probably. Mix everything, bring the pad in as last part.

I will give you a chance to do a mastering:

http://www79.zippyshare.com/v/htQsV1Js/file.html

It's minimal techno, I usually aim for an RMS of -10 in a 4-bar loop of the loudest part.

Cheers,
Dirk

Well, my motivation is tha fact that creating music should be about fun. I don't make a living out of it. So if I don't have inspiration or don't have fun, I close my daw.

Simple as that. Next day, the fun may be back and I probably will enjoy what I wasn't enjoying the day before.

When a song doens't turn out as great as I wanted it too? There's always a next time.

With every new song I start, I feel the same excitement of the first song I started working on, over 11 years ago.

My song are finished when there isn't anything left that can be deleted.  :D

In FL 11 (haven't updated yet to 12) I put all automation under the instrument it's connected with.

To move tracks around easily in the playlist, hoover over the name in the beginning of the track, press shift and use the mouse wheel to move the track.
