Would say Cubase 8 pro, it's just really good.

Logic - Tried it, good program but cannot be compared to cubase 8.
Fruityloops - Cannot get used to the layout, really confused how everything works there.
Ableton - Good program, love the workflow.
Bigwig - Haven't tried, but looks good, people say better than Ableton.

I have some friends who work for cubase and I have heard really good things for what is coming this year! :-)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Why is mixing in -dbs?
« on: January 11, 2016, 02:44:07 pm »
This is probably the newbiest shit ever, but something I haven't really considered before. Why is it that in a mix everything is recorded in -dbs? I've always just taken it for granted and not really thought about it until now, so what's the actual reason behind this?

There's a lot of write about this. Google "producing headroom" in google and you'll find a lot of articles.

Usually I sit around -8 to -10 and take the loudest part, which is the kick and build the rest around it.

Totally off-topic, but everytime I scroll trough this forum I read "The dilemma of bouncing and twerking, how do you do it?"  :o :o

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Ghost Production: Discuss
« on: January 11, 2016, 01:34:37 pm »
I personally don't mind ghostproducers in a way.

The thing I can personally feel digusted about is that DJ's can be so proud of a track that they didn't made even of barely touched.

There are many talented producers/dj's out there who simply don't get a chance, while people who just buy there way in become populair!

The same thing about the whole scene behind beatport, Itunes and the rest of those top blabla stuff. There are several groups who you pay $5 per track download and they buy & download xxxx times your track from different IP's from those websites.

Those groups are not advertised on the internet, but if you have the connections...

If you look at the EDM scene, trance, dubstep and so on, it takes like 250-300 downloads to get in the top 10.

Shorter to say; Hire a ghost producer & pay for downloads = Popularity & then just get your income from DJ gigs.

R&A Graveyard / Re: Different sub forums for DAWs?

Not a bad idea..

Cubase 8.5 pro is huge, filled with tons of stuff (as are many other daws).

I'm sure I know not even half of it.. :-)

Don't cut pads in breaks for example at 250hz and put a bass layer underneath. Many youtube videos show this and it makes the whole sound worse and more difficult to glue.

Cut the pads around 100hz with a gentle slope (12db) and then add a bass pad. It makes the break bigger. :-)

In my pads there's always white noise. Makes it sound bigger.  :)

R&A Graveyard / Acoustic sub forum?
« on: January 11, 2016, 10:17:47 am »
I didn't see a seperated forum for acoustic related things.

This is one of the most important things out there and often forgotten!

People buy or download the most expensive stuff, thinking this will improve their sound/track quality but a good treated room will be so much more valueable!

Would be nice to see a seperated forum related to the acoustic stuff!

Cheers!

As I posted in the "EQUING the kick" thread - treat your room first (acoustically - bass traps for example) and it will help you make better decisions on that.

This.

I always couldn't really get the kick and the sub right and thought I was doing something wrong. It really got me frustrated!!!

a couple months later I met a guy who's into music as well and moved over to his house. He got his entire room treated (self-made under 500 euro) and I could instantly hear everything much, much better. Guess what, I had little problem getting the Kick & Sub sound good at his place, but not only that.. I could hear everything much better!

You can buy all the best stuff in the world, but for me acoustic treatment would be number one. Even cheap monitor speakers can sound good! :-)

i know right ! i use that egg shell looking foam + moved my pc to somewhere near the middle of the room. that shit changed how my krk 5 sounds like

Do you know this (egg) foam is barely helping at all? Specially in lower frequencies? It's cheap and advertised as acoustic, but it barely does anything.

I see (known) producers on youtube videos with their whole wall covered in this foam, behind the monitors, on the reflection points and most of the time they also have their speakers too close to the wall.

These are common mistakes that I see everywhere.

I wouldn't waste my money on these cheap foam, but rather go for panels and basstraps instead. It's a new world.. :-)
