Haven't seen this coming by yet in the past and I need some thoughts of others on this subject.

I have a completely new room (6x3m) more or less and I designed my own basstraps and acoustic panels, but still have to cover them with colored fabrics.

The room itself is currently completely white, but I want to give it some color.

What are your thoughts of good colors to go with in a studio room? Glossy? Satin? Matte?

I'm thinking with a darker red color for the walls (not too dark) and a bit dark orange fabric for the panels. The ceiling I have no idea yet

Quite a few studios are red with orange, black or yellow which I find pretty good looking.

Post some pictures if you have.. :-)

Mixing/Mastering / How do you use pre & post fader settings?
« on: March 03, 2016, 08:41:30 pm »
I'm kinda curious how you guys deal with the post & pre fader options.

I've been playing around them recently and there's some nice stuff I came across.

For example when you send your reverbs to certain instruments suchs as vocals or pads, do you use post or pre?

Also, what else do you add after the reverb send, besides EQ to cut out the lows?

I'm currently using a motu 828 MKII but since I do not use all the channels at all and could do with a 2/4 channel i'm thinking about selling this unit, plus the fact that the unit is already on the market for + 8 years and by now I'm sure even the "budget" interfaces of from 400 to 800 euro will beat the motu in sound quality.

I already checked a few options but I'm unable to decide, which interface would really be a big improvement over the  motu.

Should be windows compatible.

Any suggestions?

- The RME babyface pro is not an option. I read that the sound quality is not that good compared to others in the same price range.
- Steinberg audio interfaces are not bad rated from what I read, but can't drive a 600ohm headphone properly.
- Metric Halo ULN-2 is for sure the best out there, but it cost a lot.

Thinking about the Tascam UH-7000...

I could mod the motu by black lion, but I think it would be cheaper in my case to sell the unit and buy a new one.

What other options do you guys suggest to me?

Mixing/Mastering / Training your ears (EQ). Any suggestions?
« on: February 11, 2016, 02:31:18 pm »
I'm currently looking into things to train my ears. More specific for mixing and mastering.

I know it comes experience, but do any of you know ways to train them?

For example I showed a friend of mine a project the other day and he could hear some clashing going on around the 300 to 500hz region. In my ears it sounded good but once he worked on the mix it did sound better.

Are there any ways to train my ears more to EQ better?

So, been going trough some forums recently and I see this pop up everywhere.

From what I hear it beats everything else.

There's a demo available, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Anyone had a chance to check it out?

Good marketing or really that good?

R&A Graveyard / Acoustic sub forum?
« on: January 11, 2016, 10:17:47 am »
I didn't see a seperated forum for acoustic related things.

This is one of the most important things out there and often forgotten!

People buy or download the most expensive stuff, thinking this will improve their sound/track quality but a good treated room will be so much more valueable!

Would be nice to see a seperated forum related to the acoustic stuff!

Cheers!
