Finished Tracks / Re: Sprout – Trip [Terrorhythm]
« on: April 07, 2016, 03:42:45 pm »
I like the second half of the song a lot more than the first half. Honestly, the down arpeggio works as just the intro for the first 10 secs, but it just doesn't sound good from that point. as a melody, it's just uncreative it doesn't create much for the listener to enjoy. I like the chords plenty, and maybe you should have expanded on that idea more from the beginning. Another problem if you're looking for more listeners..the song is only 1:16. That's not long enough to actually track anyone wanting to listen to something.

A change in drum samples is a must. Maybe add a little more melody to the drop area, and bring those chords up higher on the key, and have some saturation to brighten up those chords. Also that riser at 2:50 is very unbefitting, and kind of just sounds way too sidechained from that point on. Maybe that wobbly chord have more saw in it, however you're filtering it, give it some less cutoff to let the saw sound in.

yeah maybe you're right, I phrased the title pretty wrong. If I may clarify, what are some rules you set for yourself? And I'm not suggesting people limit themselves. If there is something you're just unwilling to touch, whether it be personal moral issues, or like it's something you don't feel comfortable doing for any reason. If there are standards you set yourself for, what are those standards.

It sounds well mixed (I'm on laptop speakers right now), and sounds like has even balance for instrumental use, but it's heavily reliant on that same sample over and over again.  Your track just doesn't change much throughout the song. Now it does have it's different parts, but the parts aren't that different. Otherwise, the song sounds just fine.

I would say it really depends on who you are, how you learn, and what you know. I start with producing, but then I went on to learn Piano blues improvisationist style (went on to understand how to play however I feel), and violin. Honestly, I would say, for me, Music production takes a lot more thinking on the process and creating, as the the instruments just kind of came naturally to me. But they both are hard work in learning, but from there, it all comes down to the person. :/

I personally try to keep my sampling to small cuts. I tend to not use actual musical ideas from other songs because I like writing my own melodies, but I will use just one guitar lick, a single kick, maybe 3 words of lyrics so I can cut them up, stuff like that. Not a moral thing in thinking how people should do their thing, just how I handle. What about y'all?

I was just wondering what you guys consider is crossing the line in music? I understand it's different for a lot of people and what is considered wrong in music. But where do you personally stand, doesn't have to be what you think are rules people should follow, but more like a standard you set for yourself?

You should make the sample pack available through toneden or artist union, that way, if people using your samples, at least you know they supporting. :)

I wouldn't say there's much anything anymore in music that counts as cheating except just straight up stealing someone else's songs.but as for this, I think it's just more lazy. I feel if you're actually trying to be really into this, you should put in the time to learn music theory, or at least the basics. Maybe using this isn't that bad (I've never used it, I don't know how it flows), but you can probably understand it and do even better if you know music theory. Relying on not having the knowledge to do something can really hold you back when it comes to other times. That's at least my opinion. :/
