Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Tuning Drum Samples in your DAW
« on: January 12, 2016, 01:09:06 am »
An iffy way to do it is do a heavy autotune on a drum and set it to the one key, then record that and use it. Very iffy because it won't always spot or properly fix the pitch, and sometimes it will create some weird sound added to it, So it's more of a quick fix if you're lazy.

As you guessed, just looking for feedback on my last album, Entire point of it is to tell a story. You can look in the description of each song to get the jest of it. Anyways, just want some constructive criticism! :D (If you're looking to give feedback, you can go ahead and skip Prologue, it's mostly just vocal)

Just kudos all around, well arranged, sound design is simple enough to keep the track together, and it's well mixed and mastered! Like It.

So you're obviously influenced by a lot of Deadmau5's older stuff lol and definitely some mau5trap worthy stuff in here man. Love it. Some of the sub and just general lower end stuff kind of pull too much towards themselves. Some minor EQ on the end mix could really help that a lot. Otherwise, Love it! Keep up the good work. :) My Favorite is City Evenings, love the melody.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Workflow & Inspiration Tips :)
« on: January 10, 2016, 06:44:46 am »
I'm not some big time producer, but I have found certain things that have helped me throughout the years that I want to share! :) Feel free to share. Not ordered by effectiveness, just by what comes to mind.
1. Move around. If you ever feel like your brain is kind of blanking out on ideas, just get up for awhile, Walk outside. And if you can, actually go out to somewhere completely different, Friend's house, hotel, etc. (Granted I don't do that second part too much because I prefer not too waste money I don't have on hotels, but if you can go somewhere different and write, do it!)
2. Listen to similar music when you don't know what direction to go towards. Get inspired bruh.
3. Simply lifting your head, looking directly up, and closing my eyes. Maybe do some slow head spins. Kind of joggles the mind and gives a feel for your thoughts. (Might just be a me thing.)
4. If you play a physical instrument (I do piano), do some improv, push your self around playing in a way you've heard similar to the style, maybe just something completely different to open up for other ideas.
5. Play a game, preferably a good soundtrack to it. I'm personally not really a gamer, I suck at games so I can't for the most suggest too many games to chill out too. Don't do something to full of stimuli, keep it simple so it's more mind clearing. Maybe a good indie game so it's more relaxing, but keeps your mind thinking.
6. Set yourself to take a nap, then have have an alarm set to wake yourself up right before (try to guess how long it takes you to sleep.) Get it just right, and your brain will most likely be rushing full of ideas to put down. People have more ideas when going to sleep.
If you got any tricks you want to suggest, put em down below :)

Not my style of music, but I'm still loving a lot of the concepts and sound design here. That after intro saw gate kind felt weird, like it was just pushing that border of how many instruments were okay in there. There are a couple times where things don't transition too well, but still work pretty well. Mostly, I'm just really liking the variety of sounds going on here, like the end reminds me just a tad bit of old school bassnectar mixed with an industrial song I remember from one of the really old Command & Conquer vibe. Very old school and pulls off nice. Obviously the style is record label grabbing, but it's definitely a very good underground certain clique style.

The drop leaves something to wanted. Not much mid-high ends (especially the first half of it) to really spread out the sounds. And the second drop kind of lacks organization in it's dubsteppiness. I do like the intro and you filled it out pretty well within in that, but you just gotta fill out drop that drop too. Not going say just add a bunch of reverb, but just a little something can go a long way. It's the little things with this song. :P Arrangement over all is really good, Mixing is not bad, Sound design is okay (There's only about two-three appartent sounds) Also, when rising for the dubstep drop, the kick is just kind of going wrong all over the place, which is really just a no. The song's vibe and concept gives a peace gone destroyed vibration and I like that idea. Also I don't like the way the kick sounds, but that might just be a me thing.

I'm a be honest, this doesn't sound like a lot of thought was put into this. Sorry. Their is not much to say about sound design, and the synths are harsh against what was the original song. That point at 1:30 before the vocals actually go again, actually sounds good on it's own. The style your trying to make, though, just doesn't work with the way your forcing it on it. I see your really new, so I suggest before trying to put too much out again soon, take plenty of time to learn about sound design, maybe learn some on composition and arrangement so you make the sounds more organized and matching with each other.

Random Synth arpeggios throughout song.. Check
Same bass line Throughout.. Check
Introduces Vocal shortly, only to slice to use gate effect.. Check
Definitely Techno, Bro. (None of this is supposed to be insulting, it sounds fine, just playing fun :) )

Set time stretch to Pro Transient. Works perfectly for keeping the pitch the same.

Love a lot of the ideas Mifzan :) 1.Sadly, I cannot do vocals, as I cannot sing. lol I do have a talkbox, so if you had any ideas or suggestions, I could go in that directions. You know, just general one liners that people could use. 2. Didn't think about making drums, toms and kicks are some good sample ideas. I do have a drumset in my studio, and I can create some, so I'll definitely add that in. 3. Maybe for chords I can record some variations of minor chords and do a lot of different kinds of synths for idea building. :) Aaaand Lastly For the bass, already working on some snippets for some dubstep and elctro style basslines. The lead idea, I could maybe create some good presets that make for some good solos and similar stuff! Thanks for the ideas! :D (Also sorry about the paragraph, I tend to type a lot :P )

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: What's your go-to reverb plugin?

I like Magnus Ambience, it's free and has a pretty loud reverb, but I'm thinking about purchasing Valhalla plugins for it soon.

Portizan, I don't think you get what I'm saying. lol I'm not looking for brands of samples to buy, more like what kind of sounds people want so I could try my hand at making for them. :P
