Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Layering of Ilan Bluestone - 43

its got to do with covering the frequencies, the highs, mids and lows by stacking the right sounds and you need proper EQing

armin said he needed 20 something sounds for the main lead in, this is what it feels like, HOLY fuck seriously
it was in one of the interviews he did with UAD plug ins i think

Progressive House - Dash Berlin, Kaskade, Eric Prdyz, Zedd, Sander van Doorn etc anything that builds up and then drops

Main/Big Room House - Hardwell, afrojack, stuff for festivals really.. anything big room means festivals lol

I dunno, theres not really genres anymore, everything is kinda mixed now

I dunno, I'm pretty sure that once you become talented, labels want to control what sound you make too, arty, audien, tritonal were all from anjunabeats before and now make more housy electro stuff, stuff that anjunabeats wont ever release, armin van burren's armada has a range of everything from big room, trouse, progressive, psy trance 138, etc.

you need a trademark sound that people know you for, you want someone to be like 'oh thats tom, he's the best house dj/producer that i know of'

but you can always experiment with other sounds, just dont go genre hopping when a sound becomes popular, be yourself, follow the market and trends a little to stay relevant you know? so you know whats going on in the world, but dont limit yourself to one sound

you need to believe in what you do, producing is linked with confidence, motivation must be kept high always, watch dj interviews on youtube, listen to their radio shows, dont get distracted by people, social media, etc, get a subscription to electronic music magazines, read, learn from the best only, stream sky sports so you can watch something while producing, go out and take a break, exercise, play playstation, etc lol some days are better than others

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Good free Compressor/Eq plugins?

lol its alright, everyone uses a cracked sylenth, its better to learn EQ/compression, reverb etc, with your built in ones and how it works before you go and buy 3rd party plug ins, takes awhile man to learn that stuff

i think its much better to practice EQ and compression with the ones in built in your DAW, the best EQ plug ins are from fab filter imo, fab filter Q2

id recommend ableton live, its on pc and mac

all you need is 8gb ram, 1-2tb hard drive space and an i5 at least, dont go too fancy, you need to learn your daw, you can even make music on a 400 dollar laptop but laptops batteries need to be replaced after a few years, go with a computer and you can upgrade it over the years

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Ghost Production: Discuss
« on: January 11, 2016, 12:43:05 pm »
Ghost producing is such a dirty word but its important, all the big rappers like jay z and kanye west have ghost producers, in the pop world, justin bieber and all that have ghost producers, even the great thomas edison had ghost producers and engineers working for him, obama has a team of advisors to advise him what to do, etc people love steve jobs for apple but it was wozniack and Jonathan Ive who are the true designers. i dont see that as any different to electronic music, because when money is involved people want to get involved, i dunno ghost producing works both ways, if you're a talented producer without a name yet, a big dj can get involved and help you, once you get better you can develop your brand, etc, mark sixma was ghost producing for years before he made a name for himself, nicky romero was a ghost producer for david guetta, and now has a big name, people criticise armin but armin is the only reason why trance is still alive and strong today, armin is the greatest and i would ghost produce for him if it helped my career haha LOL.
you need the right attitude/skills and to meet a person who gives you a chance for a career to happen, theres just no money in producing with illegal downloads, torrent etc its gig ticket sales and spotify streams, youtube etc, but at the end of the day we all make music cause we love and enjoy to do it.

anybody watch football? the english premier league, uefa champions league, etc inspire me to improve in my productions, even girls inspire me, some of my friends, a cup of coffee lol
