dude dope! I would say it could be a bit louder over all for sure. I'd try and add some more size to those main chords you've got going. I think you are a little bit of mixing and maybe some parallel processing away from a cosmic gate type of epicness.

from 2:40 to around 3:07 when the kick comes back in, make that area more dynamic. Add more layers, maybe an arpegiator or a melody. Something to make it more interesting and signify an energy building. Love the little glitch stop right before the drop.

There is something weird about the drop I can't quite put my finger on. Something in there is too crispy. It could be the high hat, maybe you have too much white noise. But it sort of over powers the chords them selves which are of course, the most important part.

Musically I love it dude. Great feels. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to hear more!

This is definitely unlike anything I have ever made but I have to say, I had a blast making it. If I were to receive feedback here, I would mostly be curious about the mix. Of course you guys are welcome to weigh in on other topics, but that has been my biggest focus lately. Where could I have done more/better?

Hope your ears enjoy!

I do like the ideas you've got here. It's a good start. It did, however, feel like a rough draft to me. I would work on composition. The drop feels underwhelming A. Because you didn't necessarily build it up enough and B. There wasn't a big enough difference between 8 bars prior to the drop and the drop itself.

I can also tell that the limiter on your mastering chain is working far too hard to keep everything under control. There is a sudden boost in volume right from 2:17 to 2:18 because some elements disappeared from the mix. The kick is also veeerrryyyy weak.

Please don't let any of this discourage you. I am really aiming for *constructive* criticism here. Musically, I really like what you've got! And that is without a doubt the hardest part of producing good music. You have a very solid foundation and simply have some things to learn in the sense of mixing / mastering. Keep it up!!

Cool idea you've got here! A few pieces of advice:

It is very narrow. Try adding more stereo width by panning more elements hard left and right. It also seems quite. I think this is largely due to the kick sample you are using. The Kick seems to have a TON of sub in it which is stealing headroom from more important elements. It also could punch more.

Defo add some playful panning / width to the percussive elements as well. I can tell there's some, but it they could be wider (in my opinion of course )

Keep up the good work! Got some solid ideas here.

not necessarily my favorite kind of music but I have to say it sounds very nice. Mixed well. One piece I would mention is that your low end seems quite thin. There is almost no low end coming through on my sub. Overall really cool composition tho!

WIPs / KLANG | Eyes Wide Open | 80 BPM - No idea what genre this is!
« on: March 14, 2016, 01:43:20 pm »

My latest and greatest here guys. I have never made anything like it before and I definitely had a lot of fun making it. No idea what genre this fits into but I have started caring a lot less about genres since I have been producing more and more. Really excited for people to hear this one!

If I were to get any feedback here, I would be curious mostly regarding the mix. How does it sound to fresh sets of ears? What could I have improved upon?

Enjoy

cool track! I would say work on the kick. Either pitch shift it to match the key of your song or just choose a new sample. The one you have works, but it feels like its clashing with the bass a little bit.

Around 2:45 when those little bell plucks come in, the have some serious ringing going on that is harsh to the ears. Defo a cool idea there with the break, maybe do some EQ chopping or even choose a more mellow synth for that piece.

These are all my own subjective suggestions of course, just some thoughts :)

Keep up the work for sure. Good stuff!

Really like the vibe you've got here! Love the floating vocals, your use of the stereo field, and variety in sounds. The only thing I could really say is maybe make those snares louder/bigger. Add another layer or two one of which has heavy reverb on it (turned down of course)

One other thing I am now noticing is quite a few elements seem to be panned to the left a bit too far. It may just be my ears but it definitely feels imbalanced on the left side.

Starts to get a bit mucky around 3:00.

Really cool song! Keep it up

Whoooaaa very nice  8) when that bassline comes back in around 1:45 I definitely felt an amazing build of energy. This seems very much like something mat zo would put out. Lots of respect for this one!

One piece of advice: There is definitely some pretty nasty clipping on your opening piece with the intermittent kicks. I would also think about adding some subtle effects to build into :30 seconds for the sake of making the transition a bit smoother.

Otherwise, great stuff!!!!

Very cool start. Like the vibe you've got. Of course you probably already know but it definitely needs some more layering. I'd definitely add some more reverb to what you've got, it'll add a ton of space to the track. Musically, i dig it. Keep up the work on this one!

Fuck yeah dude!
Really love this style.  You killed it.  I think the mix is pretty prime.
I could maybe imagine the percs being even a lil quieter maybe, maybe less mid in them.
I also would consider varying the last drop a lil more perhaps.

Great work
Really appreciate the feedback! I've definitely taken that into consideration for my next song.

Is that sidechain u used on those trancesaws to get that effect @ 1:45+

What I did here was drown the root note of one layer of the lead I am using in reverb and export that as audio so I had a huge tail. Then I took it, chopped it down, and drastically faded it in to create that big sweeping effect right before the pads chords came in. Glad you liked it!

1:43 was my favorite part as well. Has a seven lions feel to it and to be honest he's one of my top inspirations. I'm not sure if he's one of yours but you definitely managed to capture his sound with the whole "trance-step" vibe. At 1:45 may I ask what you're doing with those saws as well? It sounds like you got the chord, chopped it into an audio, and applied fade ins to give it that "rising" effect.

With that being said I've preferred some of your earlier tracks over this one. What you have here is good for sure but to me it's an average track. (I mean this is the most non jerkish way possible)

Seven Lions has undoubtedly always been a huge inspiration for me. I love how diverse his sounds are and how he is able to work across different genres with ease. And I totally get what you're saying. I know this could be better. I am constantly trying to improve. I am not somebody who is gonna work on a track for a month before I release it. I try and do something once a week. So I take no offense to your previous comment. I always appreciate hearing from you Lydian. Glad you enjoyed it!
